Judge Joseph Dredd is a fictional character created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra. He first appeared in the second issue of ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD'' (1977), which is a British weekly anthology Comic book, comic. He is the magazine's longest-running character. He also appears in a number of film and video game adaptations. Judge Dredd is a law enforcement and judicial officer in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One, which covers most of the east coast of North America. He is a "Judge (2000 AD), street judge", empowered to summarily arrest, convict, sentence, and execute criminals. In Great Britain, the character of Dredd and his name are sometimes invoked in discussions of police states, authoritarianism, and the rule of law. 2000 AD (comics)
''2000 AD'' is a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic magazine. As a comics anthology it serialises stories in each issue (known as "progs") and was first published by IPC Magazines in 1977, the first issue dated 26 February. Since 2000 it has been published by Rebellion Developments. ''2000 AD'' is most noted for its ''Judge Dredd'' stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Mike McMahon, John Wagner, Alan Grant and Garth Ennis. Carlos Ezquerra
Carlos Sanchez Ezquerra (12 November 1947 – 1 October 2018) was a Spanish comics artist who worked mainly in British comics. He is best known as the co-creator of ''Judge Dredd''. Biography Early work Born in Ibdes, province of Zaragoza, Aragon, Ezquerra started his career drawing westerns and war stories for Spanish publishers. In 1973, he got work in the UK market through agent Barry Coker, drawing for girls' romance titles such as '' Valentine'' and ''Mirabelle'', as well as westerns for Thorpe & Porter's ''Pocket Western Library'', and a variety of adventure strips for D. C. Thomson & Co.'s ''The Wizard''. It is directed by Danny Cannon and stars Sylvester Stallone in the title role, a law enforcement officer in the crime-ridden futuristic metropolis of Mega-City One. St Joseph's College is a co-educational independent school for day and boarding pupils between the ages of 2 and 19 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Kelvin Gosnell
Kelvin Gosnell is a British comics writer and editor. He was involved in the founding of the long-running comic '' 2000 AD'' in 1977, and was its second editor (1977–1978). He also edited '' Starlord'' (1978) and ''Tornado'' (1979). Judge Dread
Alexander Minto Hughes (2 May 1945 – 13 March 1998), better known as Judge Dread, was an English reggae and ska musician. He was the first white recording artist to have a reggae hit in Jamaica, and the BBC has banned more of his songs than those of any other recording artist, because of his frequent use of sexual innuendo and double entendres. Following his death, ''Rolling Stone'' reported, "He sold several million albums throughout his 25-plus year career and was second only to Bob Marley in U.K. reggae sales during the 1970s". Horror is a genre of fiction which is intended to frighten, scare, or disgust. Horror is often divided into the sub-genres of psychological horror and supernatural horror, which is in the realm of speculative fiction. Literary historian J. A. Valiant (comics)
''Valiant'' was a British boys' adventure comics anthology which ran from 1962 to 1976. It was published by IPC Magazines and was one of that company's major adventure titles throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Publication history The title went through a number of name changes and mergers, although always returning to its simpler one-word name. On 23 February 1963, it merged with ''Knockout'' to become ''Valiant and Knockout''. With the issue from February 1964, the title dropped "Knockout" and reverted to simply ''Valiant''. In June of 1963, Fleetway (IPC) brought out the first two (per month) issues of the digest-sized spinoff ''Valiant Picture Library'' which featured stories that had nothing to do with the main title. ''One-Eyed Jack'' was a comic strip in British comic '' Valiant'' from December 1975 to October 1976, and then later in ''Battle Picture Weekly''. It was about a tough New York detective called Jack McBane. The strip was created by ''Valiant'' editor and writer John Wagner and artist John Cooper. History In 1975 ''Valiant'' was struggling as its sales figures fell, and it was in danger of being cancelled. John Wagner was asked to take over as editor and reinvigorate the title with better, more hard-hitting stories. At the time, Wagner was the editor of a girls' comic, but he had previously helped to set up and launch ''Battle'', a boys' war comic. Toby Longworth
Toby Longworth is a British actor who has appeared on film, radio and television. He is originally from Somerset, where he attended King Edward's School, Bath. He has worked most often as a voice actor, however, notably in several science-fiction projects, audiobooks and video games.
