Wild Waves
''Wild Waves'' is a Mickey Mouse short animated film first released on December 21, 1929, as part of the ''Mickey Mouse'' film series. It was the fifteenth Mickey Mouse short to be produced, the twelfth of that year. Plot Mickey Mouse is a lifeguard, sitting on his beach chair and playing the banjo to amuse an appreciative audience of ducks, pelicans and sea lions. To his annoyance, the chair dances along. Singing "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean", Minnie Mouse changes into a bathing costume, and walks to the edge of the beach. A huge wave crashes onto the beach, dragging her out to sea. Minnie cries for help, and Mickey rushes to her rescue, swimming through the waves (and midair) to locate her. He brings her back to the beach and the audience/animals cheers. Burt Gillett
Burton F. Gillett (October 15, 1891 – December 28, 1971) was a director of animated films. He is noted for his Silly Symphonies work for Disney, particularly the 1932 short film ''Flowers and Trees'' and the 1933 short film ''Three Little Pigs'', both of which were awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and both of which were selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry. Early life He was born in Elmira, New York. His animation career started around 1916 when he was employed by the International Film Service, an early animation studio under the ownership of William Randolph Hearst and the supervision of Gregory La Cava. The studio had been formed in 1915 and first employed experienced animators Frank Moser and William Nolan. Within a year the veterans had been joined by several new recruits. ''Arctic Antics'' is a ''Silly Symphonies'' animated Disney short film. It was released on June 26, 1930. The director of the short is uncertain. Ub Iwerks' name is on the draft, but Iwerks had left the Walt Disney Studio four months before the animators started producing the cartoon. In ''Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies: A Companion to the Classic Cartoon Series'', Russell Merritt and J.B. Kaufman say that it's "likely, but uncertain" that Burt Gillett directed the short, adding, "Circumstantial evidence points to Gillett as the director. After Iwerks left, Gillett directed all but one of the subsequent 1930 ''Silly Symphonies''. Further, the scenes of the singing walrus and the applauding seals are lifted directly from ''Wild Waves'', a Mickey Mouse short directed by Gillett in late 1929. ''Mickey's Mouse Tracks'' is an American animated television series on The Disney Channel which ran from 1992 to 1995, and featured Disney cartoons and animated short films, dating from before the advent of The Disney Channel.
