Wild Surf
"Wildsurf" is a song by Ash, released as the second single from the album ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' on November 23rd, 1998. It reached 31st position in the UK Singles Chart, while doing less prominently in BBC Radio 1, where it was placed in the "C" list. The single was released in CD, 7" vinyl, and cassette. "Wildsurf" has been described by many of having a "summery" feel to it. Tim once said of it: "I was reading Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road' while we were on the road and it really inspired this song." It's about living life, burning like roman candles across the night." The song was written drawing inspiration from the styles of Nirvana and The Beach Boys. An extended version of the song was featured in the CD2 release. This one contains an additional guitar solo by Hatherley. The song can also be found on the "Intergalactic Sonic 7″s" hits collection, as well as on the "Tokyo Blitz" DVD. The track was remixed by Butch Vig for release in America. Ash (band)
Ash are a Northern Irish rock band formed in Downpatrick in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album '' Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album '' 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. After the success of their full debut the band recruited Charlotte Hatherley as a guitarist and vocalist, releasing their second record ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' in 1998. After narrowly avoiding bankruptcy, the band released ''Free All Angels'' in 2001 and a string of successful singles. The band became a three-piece again in 2006 when Hatherley left, and after five conventional albums the band released 26 singles in the ''A-Z Series'' in 2009, one every two weeks. Butch Vig
Bryan David "Butch" Vig (born August 2, 1955) is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer, best known as the drummer and co-producer of the alternative rock band Garbage and the producer of the diamond-selling Nirvana album ''Nevermind''. His work on the latter earned him the nickname the Nevermind Man. A native of Wisconsin, Vig was based in Madison for much of his career, from studying at the University of Wisconsin to performing in local bands Spooner and Fire Town. He eventually set up his own recording studio in Madison, Smart Studios, with bandmate Steve Marker. After becoming well-known as a producer, he formed and played drums with Garbage, who sold 17 million records over a ten-year period. Vig returned to producing full-time when Garbage went on hiatus in 2005. The band reconvened in 2010 to record material for their fifth album. In 2012, ''NME'' named Vig the 9th greatest producer. The Natural History Museum in London is a museum that exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. It is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, the others being the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The Natural History Museum's main frontage, however, is on Cromwell Road. Howard Douglas Greenhalgh (born 19 February 1963) is a British director of music videos and advertising. Biography Greenhalgh was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire and studied at the Royal College of Art, setting up the firm Why Not after graduating. He came to prominence in the early 1990s with his direction of the music video for the Snap! song " Rhythm is a Dancer". Greenhalgh then was hired by the Pet Shop Boys to direct videos for their successful album '' Very'' and later its follow-up '' Bilingual''. His work has also included the video for George Michael's song 'Jesus to a Child', several videos for Muse, Placebo, Soundgarden and others. Nightnurse was an English indie rock band from London, England, who had some success in the late 1990s. They released three singles, with their second "Skirt" reaching no.11 in the UK Independent Singles Chart in February 1998. They were the first band to ever release an MP3 single 'IDF/Big Sleep' and were recognised by the Guinness Book of Records for doing so. ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' is the second studio album by Northern Irish rock band Ash. It was released on 5 October 1998, through Infectious Records and Home Grown. Following the release of the band's debut studio album, ''1977'' (1996), guitarist Charlotte Hatherley became a member. They wrote new material at a farmhouse, before going to Wales to record their next album at Rockfield Studios. With additional sessions held at the Astoria in London, Ash produced the proceedings alongside Chris Kimsey and Owen Morris. A garage rock record, the New York Dolls, the Rolling Stones and the Velvet Underground inspired the album.
