Richard Thorpe
Richard Thorpe (born Rollo Smolt Thorpe; February 24, 1896 – May 1, 1991) was an American film director best known for his long career at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Biography Born Rollo Smolt Thorpe in Hutchinson, Kansas, Richard Thorpe began his entertainment career performing in vaudeville and onstage. In 1921 he began in motion pictures as an actor and directed his first silent film in 1923. He went on to direct more than one hundred and eighty films. He worked frequently at the Poverty Row studio Chesterfield Pictures during the 1930s. The first full-length motion picture he directed for MGM was ''Last of the Pagans'' (1935) starring Ray Mala. At MGM, he teamed up with producer Pandro S. Edmund Cobb
Edmund Fessenden Cobb (June 23, 1892 – August 15, 1974) was an American actor who appeared in more than 620 films between 1912 and 1966. Biography Cobb was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of William Henry Cobb and Eddie (Edmundie) Ross. His maternal grandfather, Edmund G. Ross, was a newspaper editor, a governor of the New Mexico territory, a senator from Kansas, and a leader in the abolitionist movement in the United States. Despite his grandfather's efforts to lead Cobb into a career in politics, an initial effort in acting in a locally produced play turned him in that direction for a career. When he was 18, he worked for the St. Louis Motion Picture Company when it made a film in Albuquerque. Other roles with other companies followed. George Bunny (July 13, 1867 – April 16, 1952) was an American actor. Biography The brother of actor John Bunny, he began his career during the silent era and benefited from the name recognition of his famous brother—according to the film scholar Anthony Slide, his "silent career was based on exploitation of the family name". Of a similarly heavy build, he appeared in sixty-six films between 1915 and 1951. ''The Moving Picture World'' declared, "No one who remembers the inimitable John Bunny and the peculiar style that so endeared him to comedy lovers the world over can fail to see in George Bunny almost an exact counterpart of his famous brother." Neal Hart
Neal Hart (April 7, 1879 – April 2, 1949) was an American actor and director of the silent era. Biography Hart was born in Staten Island, New York. Before he began working in films, he was a city marshal, cowboy, and stage driver. He worked in entertainment as a member of a wild-west show. Hart appeared in 125 films between 1916 and 1949. He also directed 23 films between 1919 and 1928. Until 1920 he worked at Universal as an actor, an assistant to director George Marshall, and a scenario writer. He went from Universal to Pinnacle Studios in 1920, adding producing to his writing and acting as he continued to work in Western films through the 1920s. On April 2, 1949, Hart died at the Motion Picture Country Hospital in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. He was a distant cousin of William S. Hart who is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y.
