Wild Goose (beer)
Wild Goose is a brand of beer brewed by the National Brewing Company of Easton, Maryland. The brand is available in traditional British-style ale including an IPA (India Pale Ale) and an Oatmeal Stout. History The original Wild Goose Brewery was established by Washington area lawyers Ted Garrish and John Byington, businesswoman Nancy Davis and journalist (and former speechwriter) Rich Klein in . The site of the brewery was in a section of the old Phillips packing plant, an abandoned oyster cannery facility in Cambridge, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Originally conceived as a brewpub, the founders were forced to bottle Wild Goose due to Prohibition Era laws (that were still then in effect) that restricted brewing and sale of alcohol on the same premises. Wild Goose was only the second micro-brewery to operate in Maryland since Prohibition ended in 1933. National Brewing Company
The National Brewing Company was an American brewing company that was founded in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1885. Its Baltimore brewery was located in the city's Highlandtown neighborhood. After World War II, it grew to be the largest brewer in Baltimore history and its advertising, including one-eyed mascot "Mr. Boh" and its slogan "From the Land of Pleasant Living", became part of the folk culture of the Baltimore area. In 1975, the National Brewing Company was acquired by the Carling Brewing Company. National's Highlandtown brewery was operated until 1978, when it was closed and production moved to a brewery in nearby Halethorpe, Baltimore County that had been built by Carling in 1961. The National Brewing Company brands continued to be brewed at the Halethorpe plant until it closed in 1996. Thomas Point Shoal Light
The Thomas Point Shoal Light, also known as Thomas Point Shoal Light Station, is a historic lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay on the east coast of the United States, and the most recognized lighthouse in Maryland. It is the only screw-pile lighthouse in the bay which stands at its original site. The current structure is a 1½ story hexagonal wooden cottage, equipped with a foghorn as well as the light. History A stone lighthouse was constructed in 1825 on shore at Thomas Point by John Donahoo, Thomas Point Light. It was replaced in 1838 by another stone tower. The point was subject to continuing erosion (which would eventually bring down the lighthouse on the point in 1894), and in 1873 Congress appropriated $20,000 for the construction of a screw-pile structure out in the bay, Thomas Point Shoal Light . Frederick Brewing Company
Frederick Brewing Company (at one point also known as Wild Goose Brewery) was a brewery at the Wedgewood Business Park in Frederick, Maryland, United States. It was founded sometime between 1992 and 1993 by Marjorie McGinnis, Kevin Brannon, Steve Nordahl, and Steven Tluszcz and had its grand opening on 12 February 1997. The company was taken over by Snyder International Brewing Group in 1999 and merged with Snyder International Brewing Group in 2001. In early 2002 or 2003 the company was placed into receivership and in 2006 was purchased by Flying Dog Brewery and renamed Wild Goose Brewery. At some point the brewery stopped being known as Wild Goose Brewery and just became Flying Dog Brewery. The brewery was generally considered to be state of the art.
