"Wild and Blue" is a song written by John Scott Sherrill, and recorded by American country music artist John Anderson. It was released in September 1982 as the first single and title track from the album '' Wild & Blue''. The song was Anderson's eleventh country hit and the first of five number ones on the country chart. The single went to number one for two weeks and spent a total of eleven weeks within the top 40. John's sister Donna Kay Anderson provides background vocals. Punk-folk band The Mekons covered "Wild and Blue" on their 1991 album '' Curse of the Mekons''. John David Anderson (born December 13, 1954) is an American country music singer and songwriter with a successful career that has lasted more than 40 years. Starting in 1977 with the release of his first single, "I've Got a Feelin' (Somebody's Been Stealin')", Anderson has charted more than 40 singles on the ''Billboard'' country music charts, including five number ones: "Wild and Blue", " Swingin'", " Black Sheep", " Straight Tequila Night", and " Money in the Bank". Freakwater is an American alternative country band from Louisville, Kentucky, with one co-founding member living in Chicago. Freakwater is known for the lead vocals of Janet Bean and Catherine Irwin, who mix harmony and melody in idiosyncratic dissonant country-folk that is reminiscent of the Carter Family.
