Wilbur McGaugh
Wilbur McGaugh (March 12, 1895–January 31, 1965) was an American film actor of the silent era, appearing mostly in westerns. He also directed five films. He also worked extensively as an assistant director in film and television. McGaugh's career changed with the coming of sound films. Described as "sadly inept in front of the microphones", he began working off-camer and became an assistant director for films in the 1930s and 1940s. A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking. ''The Indians Are Coming'' is a 1930 American Pre-Code Universal movie serial based on ''The Great West That Was'' by William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. The serial was the first "all-talking" (complete sound rather than a silent movie with occasional sound sections) film of its kind. It played at The Roxy Theatre and was responsible for saving the film serial format into the sound era. Plot Jack Manning (Tim McCoy) arrives in town from Gold Creek, California. He brings a message from George Woods (Francis Ford) to George's brother Tom Woods (Francis Ford in a dual role), and his niece Mary (Allene Ray), informing them he has struck gold and asking them to travel to California via a wagon train to be with him. ''The Sky Skidder'' is a 1929 American action film directed by Bruce M. Mitchell and written by Carl Krusada and Gardner Bradford. The film stars Al Wilson, Helen Foster, Wilbur McGaugh and Gilbert Holmes. The film was released on January 13, 1929, by Universal Pictures. Like many actors in the silent film era, Wilson did not survive the transition to "talkies", with ''The Sky Skidder'', his penultimate film. Plot Inventor Al Simpkins (Al Wilson) develops a new aviation fuel, he calls "Economo". Simpkins claims the fuel can gets a "1,000 miles to the pint." During a test, flight, he sees his sweetheart, Stella Hearns ( Helen Foster) in an automobile with the wealthy and dishonest Silas Smythe (Wilbur McGaugh).
