Bahia (album)
''Bahia'' is an album by jazz musician John Coltrane, released in 1965 on Prestige Records, catalogue 7353. It was recorded at two sessions at the studio of Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1958. Prestige drew on a stockpile of Coltrane material for several years after his contract had ended without the saxophonist's input. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Ron Wynn called the album "a steady, often very good hard-blowing and blues date." The authors of ''The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings'' wrote: "Harden's warm, unemphatic trumpet-playing is perfectly appropriate to the setting, and it rarely attempts anything that will scare the horses." A reviewer for the ''Record Mirror'' commented: "Talk of Coltrane being 'anti-jazz' must be dispelled by this little lot." ''Tremrs Charlie Wooley described ''Bahia'' as "an enjoyable listen," and stated that it "proves that Coltrane manages to be thoroughly entertaining, even at some of his weakest, most traditional moments. ...

Standard Coltrane (album)
''Standard Coltrane'' is an album by jazz musician John Coltrane released in October 1962 by Prestige Records. It was recorded at a single recording session at the studio of Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1958. This album was rereleased in 1970 as ''The Master'' (PR 7825) with that version rereleased on CD to include the other four tunes recorded at the same 11 July session. Those other tunes had previously been released on two other albums assembled from unissued recordings ('' Stardust'' and ''Bahia''). Reception In a review for AllMusic, Steve Leggett stated that the album is "more historical than vital or transitional, although it's pleasant enough." The authors of ''The Penguin Guide to Jazz'' called the album "a low-intensity operation with the emphasis on ballads," and commented: "Harden's warm, unemphatic trumpet-playing is perfectly appropriate to the setting, and it rarely attempts anything that will scare the horses. He and the leader seem to have worked ...

Prestige Records

In 1971, the company was sold to Fantasy, which was later absorbed by Concord. History The Prestige office was located at 446 West 50th Street, New York City. Its catalogue included Gene Ammons, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Wardell Gray, Thelonious Monk, and Sonny Rollins. Stardust (John Coltrane Album)
''Stardust'' is an album by jazz musician John Coltrane which was released in July 1963 by Prestige Records. It was assembled from two separate sessions at the studio of Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1958. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Alex Henderson wrote: "''Stardust'' contains some highlights of two bop-oriented Coltrane dates from 1958... At both sessions, Coltrane's playing is quite engaging. He is a lyrical, expressive ballad player on 'Then I'll Be Tired of You,' 'Stardust,' and 'Time After Time,' but he swings fast and aggressively on 'Love Thy Neighbor'... Coltrane is well served by Garland's piano and Chambers' bass... Although not quite essential, ''Stardust'' paints a consistently attractive picture of Coltrane's 1958 output." Track listing # " Stardust" (Hoagy Carmichael, Mitchell Parish) – 10:44 # " Time After Time" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne) – 7:45 # "Love Thy Neighbor" (Mack Gordon, Harry Revel) – 9:21 # "Then I'll Be Tired of You" (Yip H ...

Reception In a review for AllMusic, Scott Yanow wrote: "John Coltrane's Savoy recordings with fluegelhornist Wilbur Harden are enjoyable but not particularly innovative... Despite all of the emphasis on Africa in the song titles, the music is essentially American bebop featuring Coltrane, Harden and trombonist Curtis Fuller; Harden and Fuller contributed two originals apiece. This album is a companion of ''Dial Africa''." The Savoy Sessions
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things already mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with pronouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of pronoun ''thee'') when followed by a v ...
