Charles Edwin Wilbour
Charles Edwin Wilbour (March 17, 1833 – December 17, 1896) was an American journalist and Egyptologist. Wilbour is noted as one of the discoverers of the Elephantine Papyri and the creator of the first English translation of ''Les Misérables''. Biography Charles Edwin Wilbour was born in Little Compton, Rhode Island, on March 17, 1833. He received a classical education and entered Brown University, where he took a prize for proficiency in Greek and was noted for his thorough acquaintance with the ancient and modern languages, but did not graduate due to poor health. Having taught himself shorthand, when he had sufficiently recovered, he went to New York City in 1854 and became connected with the ''New York Herald Tribune'' as a reporter. Wilbour also studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859. Over the following eighteen years, he devoted himself to literary and journalistic work. Charlotte Beebe Wilbour
Charlotte Beebe Wilbour (25 December 1833 – 25 December 1914) was an American feminist, speaker, and writer. She was one of the founders of Sorosis, the first professional women’s club in America, as well as its president for many years, and one of the founders of the Association for the Advancement of Women. She was one of the pioneer leaders of the women's suffrage movement in America. Early life Charlotte Beebe was born December 25, 1833, in East Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of Springfield, Massachusetts Methodist Episcopal clergyman Reverend Edmund M. Beebe and Lucinda Beebe. She was educated at Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts, and immediately joined the ranks of feminists and reformers. She would remain an activist her entire life. Isaac Wilbour
Isaac Wilbour (April 25, 1763October 4, 1837) was an American politician from Rhode Island holding several offices, including the sixth Governor of the state. Biography Wilbour was born in Little Compton in the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. He served in the state legislature in 1805 and 1806. From October 1805 to May 1806 he served as speaker. He was Lieutenant Governor from 1806 to 1807. There had been no winner in the gubernatorial election in 1806, so he was Acting Governor from May 7, 1806, to May 6, 1807.
