Wilberd Van Der Kallen
Wilberd Leo Johan van der Kallen (born 15 January 1947 in Nieuwer-Amstel) is a Dutch mathematician. W. L. J. van der Kallen completed his undergraduate study of mathematics and physics at Utrecht University. There he received his PhD in 1973 with thesis advisor T. A. Springer and thesis ''Infinitesimally central extensions of Chevalley groups''. In 1969 van der Kallen became a teaching assistant in Utrecht University's Mathematics Department and has spent his career there, eventually becoming a tenured professor. His research deals with algebraic K-theory and the representation theory of algebraic groups, among other topics. He has frequently been a visiting professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai. He is the author or coauthor of over 60 research articles. Amstelveen () is a municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands with a population of 92.353 as of 2022. It is a suburban part of the Amsterdam metropolitan area. The municipality of Amstelveen consists of the historical villages of Bovenkerk and Nes aan de Amstel. Andrei Suslin
Andrei Suslin (russian: Андре́й Алекса́ндрович Су́слин, sometimes transliterated Souslin) was a Russian mathematician who contributed to algebraic K-theory and its connections with algebraic geometry. He was a Trustee Chair and Professor of mathematics at Northwestern University. He was born on 27 December 1950 in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a youth, he was an "all Leningrad" gymnast. He received his PhD from Leningrad University in 1974; his thesis was titled ''Projective modules over polynomial rings''. In 1976 he and Daniel Quillen independently proved Serre's conjecture about the triviality of algebraic vector bundles on affine space.
