Wijckel
Wijckel ( fry, Wikel) is a village in De Fryske Marren municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 645 in 2017. History The village was first mentioned in the 13th century Wicle. The etymology is unclear. Wijckel is a spread out village along the roads. The Dutch Reformed Church has a 15th century tower which has been enlarged in 1821. In 1671, a new church has been adjacent to the tower. In 1840, Wijckel was home to 470 people. In 1975, the ''tjasker'' Zandpoel was built. Gaasterlân-Sleat is a former municipality in the northern Netherlands. Its official name is in West Frisian, the Dutch name being Gaasterland-Sloten (). In 2014 it merged with the municipalities of Lemsterland and Skarsterlân to form the new municipality De Fryske Marren. De Fryske Marren
De Fryske Marren ( nl, De Friese Meren) is a municipality of Friesland in the northern Netherlands. It was established 1 January 2014 and consists of the former municipalities of Gaasterlân-Sleat, Lemsterland, Skarsterlân and parts of Boarnsterhim, all four of which were dissolved on the same day. The municipality is located in the province of Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands, and has a population of and a combined area of . Marrit Leenstra (speed Skater)
Marrit Leenstra (; born 10 May 1989) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Skating career In the 2007 season she made her World Cup debut in Moscow. In the 2008 season she skated a junior world record in the 1500 meters at the World Cup in Salt Lake City. Later this season she qualified for the European Championships and ranked 6th after all four distances. With this result she qualified for the World Allround. At the World Allround Championships in Berlin she placed 12th after four distances. In February 2008, Leenstra was crowned the World Junior Speed Skating Champion in Changchun, China. At the end of the season in March 2008 she improved the junior world records on the 1000 and 1500 meters and the mini combination. The latter two are still current junior world records. Tjasker
The tjasker (West Frisian: , German: ) is a small type of windmill used solely for drainage purposes. It is distinctive for its simple construction, featuring only a single inclined shaft that carries the sails on one end and an Archimedes' screw on the other, in this way avoiding the need for any gearing. The tjasker is commonly known as a typical Frisian windmill though it is also found in other Dutch provinces and in north Germany. History The tjasker seems to have been developed somewhere towards the end of the 16th century, though there is no conclusive date for its invention. The total number of tjaskers at their peak is also unclear. The mills were used to drain small plots of land but also found their use at peat digging sites as they could be easily moved.
