Wiesława Mazurkiewicz
Wiesława Mazurkiewicz-Lutkiewicz (25 March 1926 – 20 April 2021) was a Polish film and theater actress. She graduated from the National Film School in Łódź in 1952. In 1974 she starred in the Academy Award-nominated film ''The Deluge'' under Jerzy Hoffman. Mazurkiewicz appeared in the Teatr Nowy i Łódź , Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków, Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw, National Theatre in Warsaw and Teatr Rozmaitości in Warsaw. She was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit in 1979. Mazurkiewicz died on 20 April 2021, aged 95. Łódź
Łódź, also rendered in English as Lodz, is a city in central Poland and a former industrial centre. It is the capital of Łódź Voivodeship, and is located approximately south-west of Warsaw. The city's coat of arms is an example of canting, as it depicts a boat ( in Polish), which alludes to the city's name. As of 2022, Łódź has a population of 670,642 making it the country's fourth largest city. Łódź was once a small settlement that first appeared in 14th-century records. ''Interrogation'' ( pl, Przesłuchanie) is a 1982 Polish film about false imprisonment under the Stalinist pro-Soviet Polish regime in the early 1950s. The film was directed by Ryszard Bugajski and first released in 1989. The plot follows an ordinary, apolitical woman named Tonia, played by Krystyna Janda. She refuses to cooperate with the abusive system and its officials, who are trying to force her to incriminate a former incidental lover, now an accused political prisoner. Due to its criticism of the regime, the Polish communist government banned the film from public viewing for over seven years, until the 1989 dissolution of the Eastern Bloc allowed it to see the light of day.
