Wiedlisbach
Wiedlisbach is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. In 1974, the Wakker Prize was bestowed on Wiedlisbach for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage. History In the mid 13th century Count Ludwig the Elder von Frohburg built the fortified village of Wiedlisbach to collect tolls and host markets along the road to Zofingen. The village was built as rectangle with a large central market plaza astride the east-west running road. A combination tower house and defensive tower, known as the ''Städtliturm'', was built in the north-west corner, and likely served as a residence of the count's local representative. The village wall, up to tall and thick, had two gates, the Biel gate to the west and the Basel gate to the east. The village was first mentioned in 1275 as oppidum or municipium ''Wietilspach''.

Attiswil
Attiswil is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Attiswil is first mentioned in 1364 as ''Attenswile''. The region around the Aare river was inhabited at least as early as the mesolithic. The remains of mesolithic, Bronze Age and La Tène settlements have been discovered in the municipality. A number of farms and villages existed in the area during the Roman era, along with a menhir or standing stone that may predate the Romans. During the Middle Ages the village was part of the ''Herrschaft'' of Bipp. In 1413 the cities of Solothurn and Bern acquired the entire ''Herrschaft'' which they jointly administered. In 1463 Bern fully acquired the ''Herrschaft'' and the Attiswil village became part of the court of Wiedlisbach in the Bipp District. Religiously it was part of the Flumenthal parish in the Canton of Solothurn. However, in 1528, Bern adopted the new faith of the Protestant Reformation and requir ...

Wangen An Der Aare
Wangen an der Aare is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. This small town lies between Olten and Solothurn in rural surroundings on the Aare, a major river of the west-central lowland region of Switzerland, the ''Mittelland''. An ancient wooden covered bridge crosses the Aare at this point. Wangen an der Aare was the administrative centre of the former district of the same name. Transport links Wangen is situated on the Biel/Bienne - Olten railway line and close to the A1 motorway. Bipp Castle
Bipp Castle is a partially ruined castle in the municipality of Oberbipp of the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. History During the 12th century the Bishop of Basel granted the Buchsgau region, which included the village of Oberbipp, to the Count of Froburg to hold as a fief. By 1268 Bipp Castle is first mentioned in a document. During the 13th century the counts of Froburg appear to have gradually lost most of their holdings in the Buchsgau until only the villages of Bipp, Wiedlisbach and Erlinsburg remained. At some point in the following years the Froburgs also lost ownership of Bipp Castle, though whether it was sold or captured is not clear. In 1297 Count Rudolf of Neuchâtel-Nidau granted the castle to one of his Ministerialis knights. Then, in 1313 Rudolf's son, also a Rudolf, granted the castle and the right to collect tolls on the bridge to Aarwangen. In 1362 Count Rudolf of Nidau became the Lord of Froburg along with his other titles. However, when he died childle ...

Swiss Peasant War Of 1653
The Swiss peasant war of 1653 () was a popular revolt in the Old Swiss Confederacy at the time of the Ancien Régime. A devaluation of Bernese money caused a tax revolt that spread from the Entlebuch valley in the Canton of Lucerne to the Emmental valley in the Canton of Bern and then to the cantons of Solothurn and Basel and also to the Aargau. The population of the countryside demanded fiscal relief from their ruling authorities, the city councils of these cantons' capitals. When their demands were dismissed by the cities, the peasants organized themselves and threatened to blockade the cities. After initial compromises mediated by other cantons had failed, the peasants united under the treaty of Huttwil, forming the "League of Huttwil". Their movement became more radical, going beyond the initially purely fiscal demands. The Huttwil League considered itself a political entity equal to and independent from the city authorities, and it assumed full military and political sovereig ...
