Wiebke Siem
Wiebke Siem (born 1954 in Kiel) is a German mixed media artist of German and Polish heritage, winner of the prestigious Goslarer Kaiserring in 2014 as "one of the most innovative and original artists who has never compromised in their art and whose sculptures have a tremendous aura and presence because they mix the familiar and the unfamiliar, the known and the unknown". Career Her work includes installations, sculptures, textiles and fashion objects which consistently reference art, fashion and design of the 20th century. In combining traditional handicrafts such as fashion and textiles with masculine-dominated ones such as fine arts and object design, Siem questions the role of the creator by insisting on the role of the woman not just as maker but also as author. Her works, often sewed or carved, are intensively labour-based and often deal with themes of domesticity and the elaborate function which women perform in the social sphere. Kunsthalle Kiel
The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is an art museum in the German city of Kiel. With 2,000 m2 of display space, it is the largest museum in the city. It is north of the city centre on Düsternbrooker Weg. It has a lecture hall, a small cafe and a sculpture garden. Building The institution was founded in 1903 by Lotte Hegewisch of Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel to house an art gallery. Designed by Georg Lohr, the building was constructed between 1908 and 1909, opening on 14 November 1909 by Carl Neumann, chairman of the Schleswig-Holsteinischer Kunstverein, founded in 1843. It has a shell limestone facade in the Neo-Baroque and Jugendstil styles. In front of the entrance are two bison sculptures by August Gaul. In the 1950s a new staircase was added, followed by an extension in 1986. In 2012 a re-design of the entrance hall was completed. Kasper König
Kasper König (born 1943) is a German museum director and curator. Career König was born in Mettingen. In 1965 he traveled to New York as a courier on behalf of the Robert Fraser Gallery, where he lived intermittently until 1978. From 1973 to 1975, König taught as an associate professor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada. He became a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1985. Portikus, an exhibition hall for contemporary art in Frankfurt am Main, was founded in 1987 by König. From 1988 to 2000, König taught as a professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, which he headed as rector from 1989. From 2000 to 2012, he was director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Solitude Palace () is a Rococo ''schloss'' and hunting retreat commissioned by Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg. It was designed by and Philippe de La Guêpière, and constructed from 1764 to 1769. It is located on an elongated ridge between the towns of Leonberg, Gerlingen and Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg. Neues Museum Nürnberg (NMN) is a museum for modern and contemporary art and design in Nuremberg. Architecture In 1990 the Bavarian government decided to build a 20th-century museum. The Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart was founded in 1827 and is one of the oldest art associations in Germany. Jennifer Flay is the director of the Fiac (Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain). Early life Flay was born in Auckland in 1959. She came to France in 1980 to study art history at the University of Nice. Career Flay opened a gallery in 1991 in the Marais district, rue Debelleyme. Guggenheim Museum SoHo
The Guggenheim Museum SoHo was a branch of the Guggenheim Museum designed by Arata Isozaki that was located at the corner of Broadway and Prince Street in SoHo, Manhattan, New York City. The museum opened in 1992 and closed in 2001 after hosting exhibits that included ''Marc Chagall and the Jewish Theater'', ''Paul Klee at the Guggenheim Museum'', ''Robert Rauschenberg: A Retrospective'', and ''Andy Warhol: The Last Supper'', which served as a key part of the museum's permanent collection. The closing was initially hoped to be temporary, but the museum closed permanently in 2002. Initial attendance was forecast to be 250,000 visitors a year, but the museum drew between 125,000 and 200,000 its first year, and attendance did not increase in subsequent years.
