''Widow'' is a 1976 American TV film directed by J. Lee Thompson from a script by Barbara Turner. It was based on a memoir by publicist Lynne Caine. Premise A woman is widowed when her husband dies of cancer, meaning she has to look after their two children. Barbara Turner (screenwriter)
Gloria Rose "Barbara" Turner (July 14, 1936 – April 5, 2016) was an American screenwriter and actress. One of her daughters is the actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. Early life Turner was born in Brooklyn, New York to Pearl Pauline (née Zises) and Alexander Turner. Her father was an Austrian Jewish immigrant, and her mother was born in New York, to Austrian Jewish parents. Turner attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied acting. After a year of college, Turner moved back to New York, studying at Erwin Piscator's Dramatic Workshop and then with acting coach Paul Mann, where she met fellow actor Vic Morrow. Career Turner moved to Los Angeles after Morrow was cast in the 1955 film ''Blackboard Jungle.'' Michael Learned
Michael Learned (born April 9, 1939) is a distinguished American actor, known for her role as Olivia Walton in the long-running CBS drama series ''The Waltons'' (1972–1981). She has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series four times, which is tied for the record of most wins with Tyne Daly. Three of the wins were for ''The Waltons'' (1973, 1974, 1976), while the other was for ''Nurse'' (1982). Farley Earle Granger Jr. (July 1, 1925 – March 27, 2011) was an American actor, best known for his two collaborations with director Alfred Hitchcock: ''Rope'' in 1948 and '' Strangers on a Train'' in 1951. Granger was first noticed in a small stage production in Hollywood by a Goldwyn casting director, and given a significant role in '' The North Star'' (1943), a controversial film praising the Soviet Union at the height of World War II, but later condemned for its political bias. Another war film, ''The Purple Heart'' (1944), followed, before Granger's naval service in Honolulu, in a unit that arranged troop entertainment in the Pacific. Bradford Dillman (April 14, 1930 – January 16, 2018) was an American actor and author. Early life Bradford Dillman was born on April 14, 1930, in San Francisco, the son of Dean Dillman, a stockbroker, and Josephine (née Moore). Bradford's paternal grandparents were Charles Francis Dillman and Stella Borland Dean. He studied at Town School for Boys and St. Ignatius High School. He later attended the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, where he became involved with school theatre productions. While at Yale University, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1948.
