Widikum Gate
Widikum is a town and capital of the Widikum-Boffe district in Cameroon. It also serves as the Ambazonian capital of Midland State. Home to the Widikum Tribe, it is located in Momo County in northwestern Cameroon . Within the district, the town has a population of 28 152 (2005). The town is located at the meeting point of the Momo and Man River. It is also the homeland of Ambazonian lawyer and activist, Fon Gorji Dinka. History In 2019, Ambazonian separatist, General Sebastian, as he was popularly called, was killed during a military raid on his camp in Widikum on the January 5th. Security sources reported that 17 separatist fighters were killed in the course of the raid while several weapons were seized and the camp completely destroyed. However, sources within the separatist movement dispute the figures portrayed by the army and say only ‘General Sebastian’ was killed in the course of the attack as his ‘soldiers’ fell back and took cover. Following is a list of militant groups fighting for the independence of Ambazonia, commonly referred to locally as "Amba Boys". It should be recalled that there are other groups involved but their tactics remain nonviolent. Fon Gorji Dinka
Fongum Gorji Dinka is a Cameroonian attorney, political activist, and Fon of the Widikum in northwestern Cameroon. Biography Gorji Dinka was born on June 22, 1930. He was active in the Anglophone Crisis and advocated for more rights for Anglophone Cameroonians and against the Francophone government. He was the first president of the Cameroon Bar Association, and is also the named party of the ''Fongum Gorji Dinka v. Cameroon'' which was tried at the High Court of Justice and United Nations Human Rights Committee. Gorji Dinka also coined the place name Ambazonia, which he first used in 1984. Along with Bernard Fonlon and Carlson Anyangwe he authored 'The New Social Order' which claimed that the English-Speaking regions of Cameroons had the right to secede from Cameroon. He was arrested in May 1985 for his protests against the government and was detained until February 1986. After his release, he escaped to Nigeria. Ambazonia
Ambazonia, officially the Federal Republic of Ambazonia, also referred to as Amba Land, is an unrecognised breakaway state in West Africa which claims the Northwest Region and Southwest Region of Cameroon, though it currently controls almost none of the claimed territory. No country has formally recognized Ambazonia's independence, and it is currently the site of an armed conflict between Ambazonian separatist guerrillas and the Cameroonian military known as the Anglophone Crisis. The Widikum people are an ethnic group of Cameroon and are one of the largest ethnic groups of the Northwest Region (Cameroon), North-West Region of Cameroon . Origins According to oral tradition, the Widikum people originated from an area near the villages of Bamben and Numben in the Northwest Region (Cameroon), Northwest region of Cameroon. Regions Of Cameroon
The Republic of Cameroon is divided into ten regions. In 2008, the President of the Republic of Cameroon, President Paul Biya signed decrees abolishing "provinces" and replacing them with "regions". Hence, all of the country's ten provinces are now known as regions. Most of these provinces were designated in the 1960s alongside Centre-South Province (split into Centre and South in 1983).
