Wichmann Lastrop
Wichmann Lastrop (8 April 1696 in Hamburg – 9 December 1747 in Hamburg) was a Hamburg merchant and grand burgher, and one of the largest business magnates in Hamburg in the early 18th century. In 1722, he married Ilsabe Tönnies (1702–1739), daughter of the merchant and banker Johann Friedrich Tönnies. Original music by Georg Philipp Telemann, Opus TWV 11/2 ("Vermischet euch, helebte saiten (Lastrop-Tönnies)"), was composed for their wedding. Johann Friedrich Tönnies (16 July 1662 in Stralsund – 12 April 1736 in Hamburg) was a Hamburg merchant and banker. His firm, Tönnies & Behrmann, was a leading Hamburg bank in the early 18th century. Georg Philipp Telemann
Georg Philipp Telemann (; – 25 June 1767) was a German Baroque composer and multi-instrumentalist. Almost completely self-taught in music, he became a composer against his family's wishes. After studying in Magdeburg, Zellerfeld, and Hildesheim, Telemann entered the University of Leipzig to study law, but eventually settled on a career in music. He held important positions in Leipzig, Sorau, Eisenach, and Frankfurt before settling in Hamburg in 1721, where he became musical director of that city's five main churches. While Telemann's career prospered, his personal life was always troubled: his first wife died less than two years after their marriage, and his second wife had extramarital affairs and accumulated a large gambling debt before leaving him. The Telemann-Werke-Verzeichnis (Telemann Works Catalogue), abbreviated TWV, is the numbering system identifying compositions by Georg Philipp Telemann, published by musicologist Martin Ruhnke. The prefix TWV is generally followed by a genre number, a letter indicating the key (in some cases), and a work number. The genre number indicates the general type or medium of the work. A major key is in upper case, a minor key in lower case. The second number is the work's number within the genre. For example, Telemann's ''Concerto polonois in B flat major for strings and basso continuo'' is TWV 43:B3. His ''Orchestral suite in D major'' is TWV 55:D18, and his ''Overture in G minor'' is TWV 55:g4. Johann Anderson (naturalist)
Johann Anderson (14 March 1674 – 3 May 1743) was a German lawyer, naturalist, linguist, and writer who became a mayor of Hamburg. He was among the first to write about his travels to Greenland which was published posthumously in 1746 as ''Nachrichten von Island und Grönland''. Anderson was born in Hamburg, the son of a merchant and whaling ship owner Ammon. He studied law at Leipzig from 1694 and then went to Halle and obtained a doctorate from Leiden with a dissertation titled ''De iuramento Zenoniano''. He also became interested in natural history and his acquaintances included Anton van Leeuwenhoek. He returned to Hamburg in 1697 and worked as a lawyer. In 1702 he became a council secretary and became a syndic in 1708. He was involved in a treaty with the British dealing with trade in salted herrings. Percy Ernst Schramm (14 October 1894 – 21 November 1970) was a German historian who specialized in art history and medieval history. Schramm was a Chair and Professor of History at the University of Göttingen from 1929 to 1963. Early life and education Schramm was born to a wealthy and cosmopolitan family in Hamburg, that belonged to the class of Hanseatic families. His father, Max Schramm, was a lawyer, senator and second mayor (i.e. deputy mayor) from 1925 to 1928. His grandfather Ernst Schramm (1812–1882) had been a major sugar merchant in Hamburg and Brazil. His mother Olga O'Swald, grandniece of William Henry O'Swald, also belonged to a prominent Hanseatic family.
