Whitehorse (actor)
Whitehorse () is the capital of Yukon, and the largest city in Northern Canada. It was incorporated in 1950 and is located at kilometre 1426 (Historic Mile 918) on the Alaska Highway in southern Yukon. Whitehorse's downtown and Riverdale areas occupy both shores of the Yukon River, which rises in British Columbia and meets the Bering Sea in Alaska. The city was named after the White Horse Rapids for their resemblance to the mane of a white horse, near Miles Canyon, before the river was dammed. Because of the city's location in the Whitehorse valley and relative proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the climate is milder than comparable northern communities such as Yellowknife. At this latitude, winter days are short and summer days have up to about 19 hours of daylight. Tracy-Anne McPhee is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in the 2016 election. She represents the electoral district of Riverdale South as a member of the Yukon Liberal Party. She is currently the Minister of Education, the Minister of Justice, and the Government House Leader in the Yukon. Downtown Whitehorse
Downtown Whitehorse is a neighbourhood in Whitehorse, Yukon. The downtown area serves as Whitehorse's city centre and central business district. History Downtown Whitehorse originally encompassed the entirety of Whitehorse prior to the Second World War. After the war, the periphery was developed, with residents beginning to move into the Riverdale subdivision on the east bank of the river, and to suburbs outside the city limits such as Porter Creek, then to the Takhini and Hillcrest subdivisions after the military withdrew from the city in 1968. In 1971, the city limits were extended beyond downtown, officially establishing a larger city with the original area now merely the downtown area of a much larger municipal area. The National Topographic System or NTS is the system used by Natural Resources Canada for providing general purpose topographic maps of the country. NTS maps are available in a variety of scales, the standard being 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scales. The maps provide details on landforms and terrain, lakes and rivers, forested areas, administrative zones, populated areas, roads and railways, as well as other man-made features.
