A clown is a person who performs comedy and arts in a state of open-mindedness using physical comedy, typically while wearing distinct makeup or costuming and reversing folkway-norms. Whiteface is a type of performance in which a person wears theatrical makeup in order to make themselves look like a white person. The term is a reversal of the form of performance known as blackface, in which makeup was used by a performer to make themselves look like a black person, usually to portray a stereotype. Whiteface performances originated in the 19th century, and today still occasionally appear in films. Modern usages of whiteface can be contrasted with blackface in contemporary art. Whiteface is a town in Cochran County, Texas, United States. The population was 449 at the 2010 census. History According to the '' Handbook of Texas'', "The name of the town came from rancher C. C. Slaughter's Whiteface Camp and Whiteface Pasture, which were named in turn for the cattle on his ranch." By 1924, Slaughter's son-in-law, Ira P. DeLoache, turned the ranch into the new community of Whiteface. The community was moved several miles the next year to be at the railroad. Oil was discovered near the town in 1937. It was incorporated in 1945. Geography Whiteface is located on the high plains of the Llano Estacado at (33.6000974, –102.6138084). Whiteface Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in Whiteface, Texas (USA).Located in Cochran County, the district extends into small portions of Hockley and Lamb counties. It also serves Bledsoe. History The Hockley County Commissioners Court established two school districts in Cochran County, School District No. 3 and School District No. 5, on April 5, 1921. No. 5 became the Lehman/Whiteface School District. In 1925 a rancher, J. C. Whaley, built a one-room schoolhouse that was Whiteface's first school. The school opened in September 1925. During that year the Lehman/Whiteface district voted in favor of a $60,000 bond that would build a brick school building, each valued at $30,000, in all of the communities served by the district. G. S. Glenn of Littlefield served as the architect and Miller & Rogers of Levelland won the bid for construction of the Whiteface School, which opened in September 1926 for elementary school students. Whiteface River (New Hampshire)
The Whiteface River is a river rising in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. Its waters flow by way of the Cold River, Bearcamp River, Ossipee Lake, the Ossipee River and the Saco River into the Gulf of Maine, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean. The Whiteface River, sharing a name with the Mount Whiteface, rises on the southern slopes of the Sandwich Range in the town of Waterville Valley. The headwaters collect tributaries from the area between Mt. Whiteface and Flat Mountain, as well as from The Sleepers, some broad peaks extending north towards Mount Tripyramid. Flowing south, the river enters the town of Sandwich and the Whiteface Intervale, a broad, flat valley at the base of the Sandwich Range. Whiteface was an American, Atlanta-based pop-rock-funk band formed in the late 1970s. Its members were technically proficient and each was a lead vocalist, giving the band an incredible vocal harmony sound. Their music style varied wildly from funk & R&B to pop & rock. Members The core members for their album on Mercury Records featured keyboardist Doug "Bingo" Bare (died February 5, 2018), bassist Kyle Henderson, guitarist Steve Hardwick, and drummer Benny Rappa (died May 25, 2004). Formation Whiteface recorded their debut album on Mercury Records. It failed to garner support, promotion and publicity from Mercury and the album slipped into obscurity. After this album failed to sell, Kyle Henderson left the band to join The Producers, a new wave, post-punk, power-pop band from Atlanta which had 2 major-label releases, several TVvideos, enjoyed quite a bit of regional success into the `90's and some national success for a brief period in the early `80's.
