White Mischief (festival)
White Mischief is a steampunk-themed indoor festival, first organized in London in 2007. Around the World in 80 Days White Mischief's 2008 event was held at the Scala nightclub in London. Steampunk
Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates retrofuturistic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American "Wild West", where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Miss Behave
Amy Saunders also known as Miss Behave, is a British-born producer, performer, comedian and curator. She is a self-taught sword swallower and performs in cabarets. Career Saunders is mostly known as a sword swallower. She has broken the Guinness world record for most swords swallowed by a woman three times. She first broke the record by swallowing five swords in London on 28 April 1999. She then swallowed six swords on the set of ''El Show de los Récords'' in Madrid on 27 November 2001. On 11 September 2004, she swallowed seven swords in London. Saunders first began sword-swallowing while busking in bars in the West End of London in 1996. She started performance life in fetish clubs and then moved to freak shows as a sword swallower. Since 2001, Saunders has been performing under the stage name of Miss Behave. Dickon Edwards
Dickon Edwards (born Richard Dickon Edwards; 3 September 1971), also known as Dickon Angel, is a London-based indie pop musician and diarist. He was a founding member of the bands Orlando and Fosca, and briefly played guitar in the band Spearmint. Known for his dandy aesthetic, Dickon has peroxide blonde hair and is often seen in a white, blue, or silver-grey three-piece suit, the silver-grey suit being a bequest from fellow London dandy Sebastian Horsley. He has kept a blog called ''The Diary at the Centre of the Earth'' since 8 December 1997 (predating the 1999 coining of the term "blog" - he terms it an "online diary"). Snake Charming
Snake charming is the practice of appearing to hypnotize a snake (often a cobra) by playing and waving around an instrument called a pungi. A typical performance may also include handling the snakes or performing other seemingly dangerous acts, as well as other street performance staples, like juggling and sleight of hand. The practice was historically the profession of some tribesmen in India well into the 20th century but snake charming declined rapidly after the government banned the practice in 1972. Jazz
