''White Jesus Black Problems'' is the fifth studio album by American musician Fantastic Negrito, released on June 3, 2022, by the musician's own label Storefront Records. Background Fantastic Negrito conceived the concept of the album when he learned that his seventh great-grandmother was a white indentured servant from Scotland, who in turn entered into a common-law marriage with an enslaved African-American man. Many of the album's lyrics deal with slavery in historical times and its effects on modern-day people of color, as well as interracial relationships that were illegal during certain periods of American history. ''Rock n' Load'' described the album's subject matter and lyrics as "an exhilarating ode to the power of family and the enduring resilience of our shared humanity." Xavier Amin Dphrepaulezz (born January 20, 1968), better known by his stage name Fantastic Negrito, is an American singer-songwriter whose music spans blues, R&B, and roots music. His 2016 album ''The Last Days of Oakland'' won a Grammy award for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 59th Grammy Awards. Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. The Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album was awarded from 1988 to 2011 and from 2017 onwards. Until 1992 the award was known as Best Contemporary Blues Performance and in 1989 was awarded to a song rather than to an album. The award was discontinued after the 2011 Grammy season in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012 onwards, the category was merged with the Best Traditional Blues Album category to form the new Best Blues Album category. However, in 2016 the Grammy organisation decided to revert the situation back to the pre-2012 era, with two separate categories for traditional and contemporary blues recordings respectively.
