Whip Jones
Whipple Van Ness "Whip" Jones (November 8, 1909 – June 29, 2001) was a ski industry pioneer, founder, developer and the original operator for 35 years, of the Aspen Highlands ski area in Aspen, Colorado. Whip Jones and the company he founded, Aspen Highlands, won a US Supreme Court case against his rival, the Aspen Skiing Company. Jones was also a philanthropist, and was inducted into The Colorado Ski Hall of Fame and The Aspen Hall of Fame for his work with Aspen Highlands. Early years Jones was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to Esther Olin Whipple (1884β1977) and Frank William Jones I (1876β1936). A 1932 graduate of Harvard University, he married heiress Mary Sue McCulloch (1913β1996). He was a captain in the Missouri State Guard and worked as a trust officer at the St. Louis Union Trust Company. Buttermilk (ski Area)
Buttermilk Ski Area refers to a ski hill and an unincorporated community surrounding it in Pitkin County, Colorado. Located about halfway between the cities of Aspen and Snowmass Village, it is frequently considered the easiest skiing mountain in the area. Buttermilk has also been the host to the ESPN Winter X Games multiple times. It contains three ski areas: Tiehack (difficult), Main Buttermilk (regular), and West Buttermilk (easy). Art Pfister developed Buttermilk Mountain ski area in 1958.γIt was part of the original Aspen trio of 1960s: Aspen Mountain (ski area), Aspen Highlands, and Aspen Buttermilk. Xiao-Li Meng
Xiao-Li Meng (; born 1963) is a Chinese American statistician and the Whipple V. N. Jones Professor of Statistics at Harvard University. He received the COPSS Presidents' Award in 2001. He has written numerous research papers about Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms and other statistical methodology. From 2004 to 2012, Meng was the Chair of Harvard's Department of Statistics, where he helped create innovative new statistics courses designed to give students a more positive impression of the subject. He edited the journals ''Bayesian Analysis'' from 2003 to 2005 and ''Statistica Sinica'' from 2005 to 2008. On August 14, 2012, Xiao-Li Meng was appointed dean of Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS).
