''Whew!'' is an American television game show that aired on CBS from April 23, 1979, until May 30, 1980. It was hosted by Tom Kennedy and announced by Rod Roddy. Gameplay features contestants correcting "bloopers", factual statements in which one word has been changed. The game was created by Jay Wolpert. Production was initially credited to the Bud Austin Company, then later changed to Jay Wolpert Productions in association with Burt Sugarman Inc. The animated opening sequence, featuring a woman named Bridget evading an array of villains, was produced by Hanna-Barbera. In September 2021, TV network Buzzr began reruns of ''Whew!'' Jay Wolpert
Jay Wolpert (January 29, 1942 – January 3, 2022) was an American television producer and screenwriter. Life and career Wolpert was born in The Bronx, New York City. His first television appearance came as a contestant on the original version of ''Jeopardy!'' in 1969. He competed in the ''Jeopardy!'' Tournament of Champions that year and won. Wolpert's upset win was notable for defeating the two highest-winning contestants in regular ''Jeopardy!'' play up to that point, Jane Gschwend and Elliot Shteir. Game show production Wolpert began his game show-producing career working for Dan Enright in Canada. James Edward Narz (February 26, 1927 – October 7, 2020), known professionally as Tom Kennedy, was an American television host best known for his work in game shows. Rod Roddy
Robert Ray Roddy (September 28, 1937 – October 27, 2003) was an American radio and television announcer. He was primarily known for his role as an offstage announcer on game shows. Among the shows that he announced are the CBS game shows ''Whew!'' and ''Press Your Luck.'' He is widely recognized by the signature line, "Come on down!" from ''The Price Is Right'', and it appears on his grave marker, although the phrase was originated and made popular by his predecessor Johnny Olson. Roddy succeeded original announcer Olson on ''The Price Is Right'' and held the role from 1986 until his death in 2003, and as of 2022, is the longest-serving announcer on the current incarnation of the show. Burt Sugarman
Burton Roy Sugarman (born January 4, 1939) is an American film and television producer best known for creating and producing the iconic 1970s/early '80s variety series '' The Midnight Special'', which served as a showcase for popular musical groups of the time. Sugarman also produced the 1970s game shows ''Celebrity Sweepstakes'', ''Whew!'' and ''The Wizard of Odds'', and the short-lived series ''The Richard Pryor Show''. ''Child's Play'' is an American television game show in which adult contestants tried to guess words based on definitions given by children. The Mark Goodson-produced series debuted on CBS on September 20, 1982 and ended on September 16, 1983. This was the first game show created and produced solo by Mark Goodson after the death of his longtime business partner Bill Todman in 1979; all subsequent shows made by Goodson (including the existing Goodson-Todman programs that were still airing at the time) were credited as "A Mark Goodson Television Production", with a new logo reflecting the company's name change. ''Match Game'' is an American television panel game show that premiered on NBC in 1962 and has been revived several times over the course of the last six decades. The game features contestants trying to match answers given by celebrity panelists to fill-in-the-blank questions. Beginning with the CBS run of the 1970s, the questions are often formed as humorous double entendres. ''The Match Game'' in its original version ran on NBC's daytime lineup from 1962 until 1969. A trilon is a three-faceted prism-shaped object. A trilon can be made to rotate on an axle to show different text or images which may be applied to any of its three facets. Trilons have been used on game shows and billboards. The game board on the original ''Concentration'' may have been the first use of trilons on a game show. The game combined the card game with a rebus puzzle. The original game board consisted of 30 motorized trilons. One facet of each trilon had an identifying number. A description of a prize or other game element was on a second facet, and a portion of a rebus was on the third facet. The rebus was gradually revealed as the game progressed.
