''When London Burns'' is the first DVD released by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on March 7, 2006, by Earache Records. The extra features include a documentary entitled ''Behind the Scars'', which discusses the production of the album '' Scars of the Crucifix''. The Hoffman brothers left Deicide five days before the concert was recorded. Deicide (band)
Deicide is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by drummer/composer Steve Asheim and guitarist brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman as "Carnage", then hiring bassist/vocalist/lyricist Glen Benton and becoming "Amon". They would later change the band name to Deicide in 1989. The band rose to mainstream success in 1992 with their second album ''Legion (album), Legion'', and is credited as the second-best-selling death metal band of the Soundscan Era, after Cannibal Corpse. Since their debut album in 1990, Deicide has released twelve studio albums, one live album, two compilation albums and two live DVDs. Earache Records is a British independent record label, music publisher and management company founded by Digby Pearson in 1985, based in Nottingham, England, with offices in London and New York. The label helped to pioneer extreme metal by releasing early grindcore and death metal records between the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Its roster has since diversified into more mainstream guitar music, working with bands such as Rival Sons, the Temperance Movement, Blackberry Smoke, Scarlet Rebels and the White Buffalo. ''Scars of the Crucifix'' is the seventh studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on February 23, 2004, Deicide's first album on the band's new label Earache Records. The track "Scars of the Crucifix" spawned Deicide's first ever music video, filmed in Nottingham. This is the final Deicide album to feature the band's full original lineup, as the Hoffman brothers would both depart shortly after this album—ending their 17-year tenure with the group. The closing track, "The Pentecostal", is followed by a hidden untitled bonus track with drummer/composer Steve Asheim playing a classical piano solo. On July 11, 2006, ''Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles'' reported that Deicide received a Silver Disc from the independent music trade body Impala for their sales in Europe. ''The Stench of Redemption'' is the eighth studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It is the first album by the band to feature Jack Owen (formerly of Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (formerly of Iced Earth) on guitars. Some editions of the album include a cover of "Black Night" by Deep Purple, with rewritten lyrics by Glen Benton. ''The Stench of Redemption'' was Deicide's most successful release to date, peaking at No. 11 on the Top Heatseekers chart. Many critics praised ''The Stench of Redemption'' as a return to form for Deicide, despite the band losing both Eric and Brian Hoffman. Glen Benton
Glen Benton (born June 18, 1967) is an American death metal musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the death metal band Deicide and was also a part of the band Vital Remains, where he has performed in recording sessions as well as live with them on a few occasions. He is known for very low guttural growls as well as very high shrieks. Biography Benton was born in Niagara Falls, New York but was raised in Tampa, Florida. It was here on July 21, 1987, after guitarist Brian Hoffman replied to Benton's advertisement in a local music magazine, Deicide was formed. Within days the band, consisting of Benton (bass/vocals), Hoffman, Hoffman's brother Eric (guitars) and Steve Asheim (drums), was named "Amon", after the Egyptian deity. Steve Asheim
Steve Asheim (born January 17, 1970) is an American drummer and primary songwriter for the death metal band Deicide. Asheim endorses Pearl, Paiste, Vater, Axis and is known to collect guns, which can be seen in Deicide's DVD '' When London Burns''. Asheim also plays guitar on the album '' Till Death Do Us Part''. On November 20, 2007, Asheim joined the St. Petersburg, Florida-based death/black metal band Order of Ennead as their drummer. Biography Asheim was born in Freehold, New Jersey and is of Norwegian descent through his grandparents who were from Stavanger. His first instrument was the trumpet, but after a few months, he started playing self-taught drums at age 11 and began to play in small bands at 13. Jack Owen
Jack Owen (born December 6, 1967) is an American guitarist and a member of the death metal band Six Feet Under. He was one of the founding members of Cannibal Corpse. He stayed with the band from their formation in 1988 until 2004 when he left because he wanted to move on, as stated in the '' Centuries of Torment'' DVD. Later that year though, he was hired by Deicide—another influential and long-running Florida death metal band—with whom he recorded four albums. He left the band in 2016. In 2007, Owen played shows with Adrift before joining Order of Ennead at times when their guitarist, John Li, was unavailable. Dave Suzuki (born February 8, 1972) is an American death metal multi-instrumentalist from Las Vegas, Nevada. He is best known for his work as the guitarist, lyricist, bassist, and drummer for Vital Remains from 1995 to 2007 and as a touring guitarist with Deicide from 2004 to 2005. Since 2011, he has been the guitarist and vocalist for the doom/death metal band Churchburn.
