Marin Sais
Marin Sais (born Mae Smith; August 2, 1890 – December 31, 1971) was an American actress whose career was most prolific during the silent film era of the 1910s and 1920s. Sais' acting career spanned over four decades and she is possibly best recalled for appearing in Western themed films. Early life and career Born in San Rafael, California into a family that was allegedly descended from one of the earliest Spanish families to settle in California, Marin Sais began her acting career as a teenager after travelling to New York City where she appeared in vaudeville. In 1910, at the age of twenty, Sais made her screen debut for New York City's Vitagraph Studios in the short film adaptation of William Shakespeare's ''Twelfth Night'' opposite the notable actors Florence Turner and Julia Swayne Gordon. Lightning was a German shepherd from a line of canine silent film stars. A grandson of Strongheart, Lightning was billed as "The Wonder Dog" and "The Marvel Dog". He began life as a runt but grew to be larger than average for the breed, and he was very intelligent. Lightning appeared in numerous movies. Murdock MacQuarrie
Murdock MacQuarrie (August 25, 1878 – August 20, 1942) was an American silent film actor and director. His name was also seen as Murdock McQuarrie. MacQuarrie was born in San Francisco, California, and attended school there. He was the brother of actors Albert MacQuarrie, Frank MacQuarrie, and George MacQuarrie. After acting on stage, MacQuarrie began acting in films in 1902 with Biograph. His film work included ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' (1913), before becoming a director at Universal. He is perhaps best-remembered by modern audiences as J. Widdecombe Billows, the eccentric inventor of the eating machine, in Charlie Chaplin's '' Modern Times'' (1936). In the 1910s, MacQuarrie directed at Universal, and in the early 1920s he returned to acting. He diversified his activities in 1919, joining his wife in her real-estate business in Hollywood. William Desmond (actor)
William Desmond (born William Mannion; January 23, 1878 – November 3, 1949) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1915 and 1948. He was nicknamed "The King of the Silent Serials." Born William Mannion in Horseheads, New York, he was raised in New York City. He later changed his surname to a stage name. He started out in vaudeville and the legitimate stage before making his film debut. In 1919, he married his co-star Mary McIvor, with whom he had two daughters. On November 3, 1949, Desmond died at age 71 of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California. He is interred at the Chapel of the Pines Crematory, Los Angeles. Harry Jack Revier (16 March 1890 – 13 August 1957) was an independent American director, producer and first generation exploitation film maker best known for his sound films '' The Lost City'' (1935), '' Lash of the Penitentes'' (1936), and '' Child Bride'' (1938). Biography Harry Revier was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1890. Some sources state that he gained early experience as a cinematographer in Europe, but his name is absent from passenger lists from that time. His earliest known screen credit is as the director of the Victor Film Company’s ''The Imp Abroad'' (1914), starring James W. Horne. Although Revier worked in the film industry for about 40 years, he only occasionally worked for any of the major studios.
