Christopher Whelen
Christopher Whelen (17 April 1927 – 18 September 1993) was an English composer, conductor and playwright, best known for his radio and List of television operas, television operas. Because much of his work was written for specific theatre productions in the 1950s, or directly for broadcast in the 1960s to the 1980s, little of it survives today though a number of his scores, etc, have now been deposited in the British Library (MS Mus 1798). Life Whelen was born in London and christened at St Martin-in-the-Fields. He was bought up by his mother Winifred, a violinist, with the help of his Godmother Mary Gotch, also a musician. Frederick Whelen
Frederick Whelen (16 October 1867 – 1955) was a British theatre director. Born in London, Whelen was educated there, and in Germany. In 1900, he married the actor Elaine Sandham. Whelen joined the Fabian Society in 1892, and served on its executive for several years between 1896 and 1903. He was also on the executive of the London Reform Union, and was active in local politics in Chelsea. In addition, he served as a governor of the London School of Economics, and wrote the book ''London Government''. In 1899, Whelen founded the Stage Society, and soon became the secretary to Herbert Beerbohm Tree, manager of His Majesty's Theatre. Townsend Whelen (March 6, 1877 – December 23, 1961), called "Townie" by his friends, was an American hunter, soldier, writer, Outdoor enthusiast, outdoorsman and rifleman. Whelen was a colonel in the United States Army, and a prolific writer on guns and hunting, writing over two thousand magazine articles in his career. He was a contributing editor to ''Sports Afield'', ''American Rifleman'', ''Field and Stream'', ''Outdoor Life'', ''Guns & Ammo'', and other magazines, and author of ''Suggestions to Military Riflemen'', ''The American Rifle'', ''Telescopic Rifle Sights, The Hunting Rifle, Small Arms and Ballistics, Hunting Big Game (of which he was the editor), Amateur Gunsmithing'', and ''Why Not Load Your Own''. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (formerly known as Racecar Euro Series and Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series) is an official NASCAR stock-car racing series based in Europe. It is one of NASCAR's three international-sanctioned series, alongside the NASCAR Pinty's Series and the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series, and the only one based outside North America. The NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series (formerly the Whelen All-American Series, Winston Racing Series and the Dodge Weekly Series) is a points championship for NASCAR sanctioned local short track motor racing around the United States and Canada. In the 30 years of NASCAR sanctioning weekly racing for a national championship, the tracks have been split, initially by geographical proximity of the tracks for purposes of developing regional champions, then randomly among four divisions and currently by states that have tracks participating. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) (previously the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series from 1985 until 2005) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. The Modified Division is NASCAR's oldest division, and is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions. Whelen Southern Modified Tour
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (WSMT) was a stock car racing series owned by NASCAR and operated in the Southeastern United States as part of its Modified Division. The series began in 1989 as the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams (S.M.A.R.T.) before NASCAR took over the series in 2005. The Whelen Southern Modified Tour used nearly identical rules as its northeastern-based counterpart the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The series merged with the Modified Tour in 2017. Camp Whelen, a Christian summer camp for young girls, was founded in the early 1920s after the former Harvey Cedars Hotel was purchased by the Philadelphia YWCA. Camp Whelen survived until the Depression. After shutting down due to declining attendance, the hotel was abandoned for about 10 years. After this, it was purchased and turned into Harvey Cedars Bible Conference. Whelen Springs is a town in Clark County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 92 at the 2010 census. From 1930 through 1939 the town thrived, being a main hub of operations for the then powerful Ozan Lumber Company. Geography Whelen Springs is located in southern Clark County at (33.831691, -93.125898), approximately north of the Little Missouri River. Arkansas Highway 53 passes through the town, leading north to Gurdon and south to Bluff City, via Highway 24.
