Wheelchair fencing at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Olympic Green Convention Centre, Fencing Gymnasium of the Olympic Green Convention Centre from 14 September to 17 September. Classification Fencers were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows fencers to compete against others with a similar level of function. Fencing has two classes, A and B. Wheelchairs were anchored to the ground during competition. Saysunee Jana
Saysunee Jana (; born 15 June 1974) is a Thai wheelchair fencer. She is Thailand's first female Paralympic gold medallist when she won the Épée B event at the 2004 Athens Paralympics. She has won two gold, one silver, and three bronze in total from five appearances at the Paralympic Games. Personal life When she was 17, Jana was in a motorcycle crash which resulted in her breaking her back and leaving both of her legs paralysed. Career Jana first participated in the Paralympic Games in 2004 where she won a gold medal in the Épée B event and a bronze medal in the Foil B event. She won another bronze medal at the 2008 games, a gold medal at the 2012 games and a silver medal at the 2016 games, all of which were in Épée B events. She was also the flag bearer for Thailand at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Chan Yui Chong (born 4 January 1983) is a Hong Konger wheelchair fencer who has been part of the national team since 2002. She has competed for her country at the Summer Paralympics, the Asian Para Games and at the IWAS World Championships. Sporting career Chan Yui Chong joined the Hong Kong wheelchair fencing team in 2002. Chan took up the sport after being inspired by a music video featuring a fencer. When at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece, she won three gold medals and a silver in the épée B at the age of 21. Alison Yu Chui Yee (; born 29 March 1984) is a wheelchair fencer from Hong Kong. When she was 11 years old, she had bone cancer, leading to the amputation of her left leg. She began as a swimmer but switched to fencing at the age of 17. At the 2004 Summer Paralympics, she won four gold medals in both the individual and team events of épée and foil.
