What You Got (Grinspoon Song)
"What You Got" is the second single by Australian rock band Grinspoon from their fifth studio album ''Alibis & Other Lies''. The song was co-written by Phil Jamieson and Matthew Strong ( Custard), who is the bass player in Jamieson’s side project, Lost Gospel. The single was only released in a digital format on iTunes. Reception Australian music website, The Dwarf, describes "What You Got" as being musically closer to " Hard Act to Follow" stating "It's short, sharp and 100% killer. Just how it should be." Michael Olivotto of FasterLouder believes that the song "instantly wreaks of The Lost Gospel" and that whilst the song is good in its own right, it "stick(s) out from the rest of the album and would have been better left as B-side(s)s or for some other project." Grinspoon are an Australian Rock music, rock band from Lismore, New South Wales, formed in 1995 and fronted by Phil Jamieson on vocals and guitar with Pat Davern on guitar, Joe Hansen on bass guitar and Kristian Hopes on drums. Also in 1995, Grinspoon won the Triple J-sponsored Unearthed (talent contest), Unearthed competition for Lismore, with their post-grunge song "Grinspoon (EP), Sickfest". The name "Grinspoon" was taken from Lester Grinspoon, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, an associate professor emeritus of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, who supported marijuana for medical use. Viewbank College is an Australian public secondary school located in the north eastern suburb of Viewbank, in Melbourne, Australia. History and notable alumni Viewbank College was founded on the site of Rosanna East High School in 1994, the result of a merger between it and Banyule High School. The two original schools serviced the surrounding area, predominantly enrolling students situated in the City of Heidelberg (now known as the City of Banyule). Custard (band)
Custard are an Australian indie rock band formed in 1989 in Brisbane, Queensland. The band is colloquially known as "Custaro" () due to frequent misreadings of its name. History 1989–1993: Formation and early EPs The band was originally known as Custard Gun and featured David McCormack on vocals and guitar, Paul Medew on bass (McCormack and Medew both ex-Who's Gerald?), James Straker (later in The Melniks) on guitar and Shane Brunn (who later formed Hugbubble and Vanlustbader) on drums. ''Alibis & Other Lies'' is the fifth studio album by Grinspoon, which was released 21 July 2007. The first single from the album is Black Tattoo, being released as a digital download on 23 June and on Single 30 June 2007. Ramesh Sathiah, producer of Green Album and Licker Bottle Cozy, is producing the album. "Black Tattoo" is more similar to songs from ''Guide to Better Living'' than the songs off their last album, but the rest of the songs range from AC/DC-esque rockers like "Choirboy" to country rock songs like "Find Your Own Way", to glam metal songs like "Carried Away" and to soft rock songs like "Minute by Minute". This was their final album under their current contract with Universal Music Australia.
