"What It Is (Block Boy)" is a single by American rapper Doechii, released through Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records on March 17, 2023. The original features fellow Floridian rapper Kodak Black, but a solo version, without Black, was released simultaneously. Six variations of the track were released, which include sped-up and slowed-down versions. Produced by J. White Did It and Brian Kennedy, it is Doechii's first single to enter the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at number 29. Composition In regard to the song, Doechii said: This song is a fusion of nostalgia and pop vibes. A nightcore edit is a version of a track that increases the pitch and speeds up its source material by approximately 35%. This gives an effect almost identical to playing a 33⅓-RPM vinyl record at 45 RPM. This 35% increase in RPM causes the note C4 to become slightly lower in pitch than the note F#4 (261.63 Hz becomes 353.19 Hz) which is an increase of approximately 5 and a half semitones. The name is derived from the Norwegian musical duo Nightcore, which released pitch-shifted versions of trance and eurodance songs. Trillville
Trillville is an American hip hop group formed in 1997. Its founding members are Donnell Don P Prince, Dirty Mouth (born Jamal Glaze), and LA (formerly Lil LA and Lil Atlanta; born Lawrence Edwards). Dirty Mouth left the group in 2007 to pursue a solo career and returned in 2011. Biography The three members of Trillville met as high school students in Atlanta. Glaze led the snare drums in the school's marching band, Don P wrote rhymes and produced beats on his keyboard, and Edwards was an aspiring promoter. They named their group "Trillville" combining the words "truth" and "real", with " Prince ", Glaze "Dirty Mouth", and Edwards "Lil Atlanta" (later "Lil LA" and "LA"). In popular music, interpolation (also called a replayed sample) refers to using a melody—or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics)—from a previously recorded song but re-recording the melody instead of sampling it. Interpolation is often used when the artist or label who owns the piece of music declines to license the sample, or if licensing the piece of music is considered too costly.
