What In The World
"What in the World" is a song by David Bowie released on his 1977 album '' Low'', later making appearances as repertoire in the 1978 world tour as well as other major tours. "What in the World" showcases some of Bowie's Berlin-era songwriting and production techniques. This song, like others on ''Low'', shows Bowie's experiments with disjointed, non-linear lyrics with seemingly random sentences and free-associative phrases. The song makes heavy use of synthesizer and recording studio techniques, heavily influenced by the work of Brian Eno, who collaborated with the album. A "blip"-like sound comparable to the sounds later made by Pac-Man and the Nintendo Entertainment System pulses throughout the song, which, coupled with extremely rhythmic guitar solos, creates a frantic pace. Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche) is a manufacturer of electronics based in Osimo, Italy, founded in 1946. The company manufactured a series of compact electronic organs in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Compact, FAST, Professional and VIP ranges, and later, a series of other keyboard instruments. Roy Young (musician)
Roy Frederick Young (20 October 1934 – 27 April 2018) was a British rock and roll singer, pianist and keyboard player. He first recorded in the late 1950s before performing in Hamburg with the Beatles. After a stint with Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, he released several albums with his own band as well as recording with Chuck Berry and David Bowie, among others. Ricky Gardiner
Ricky Gardiner (31 August 1948 – 13 May 2022) was a Scottish guitarist and composer. Biography Gardiner joined his first band, the Vostoks, at school in 1962. Next there were the Kingbees and the System, with whom he formed Beggars Opera in 1969. He played in his own outfit with this band, Beggars Opera, and also with friends David Bowie and Iggy Pop. For Bowie he played lead guitar on the 1977 album '' Low''. For Pop he worked on his album '' Lust for Life'' the same year: the issue included " The Passenger", regarded as one of Pop's best songs, for which Gardiner composed the music. Bowie biographer David Buckley described it as being "possessed with one of the greatest riffs of all time". George Murray (musician)
George Murray is an American bass guitarist best known for his work with David Bowie on a number of Bowie's albums released in the 1970s. Murray was part of Bowie's rhythm section, the D.A.M. Trio, for much of the decade, alongside drummer Dennis Davis and guitarist Carlos Alomar. He studied at Bronx Community College and had toured Europe, South America and Canada with George McCrae as well as touring and performing with the Broadway plays ''Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope'' and ''Your Arms Too Short to Box with God'', prior to his work with Bowie. As of 2017 Murray works at a school district in California where he lives with his wife, Teresa Woo-Murray, and son, Marcus. Carlos Alomar
Carlos Alomar (born 7 May 1951) is a Puerto Ricans, Puerto Rican guitarist. He is best known for his work with David Bowie from the mid-1970s to the early 2000s, having played on more Bowie albums than any musician other than pianist Mike Garson. He has also performed with Duran Duran side project Arcadia (band), Arcadia, on the album ''So Red the Rose''. History The son of a Pentecostal minister, Alomar was raised in New York. From the age of ten he taught himself to play the guitar, and started playing professionally at age sixteen. In the 1960s he performed during "Amateur Hour" at the Apollo Theater, eventually joining the house band, backing Chuck Berry and many leading soul music, soul artists. Serious Moonlight (1983 Film)
''Serious Moonlight'' is a David Bowie concert video. Filmed in Vancouver on 12 September 1983, on the singer's "Serious Moonlight Tour", the video was released on VHS and laserdisc in 1984 and on DVD in 2006. The concert includes most of the songs from the concert although "Star", "Stay", "The Jean Genie", "Red Sails" and " Modern Love" were left off the 1984 release due to time constraints; the songs were not reinstated for the 2006 DVD release. A live version (audio only) of "Modern Love", recorded on 13 July 1983 at a show in Montreal and originally released as the B-side to the studio version of the same song, can be found elsewhere on the 2006 DVD release as background music for the photo gallery.
