''What's On'' was an Australian television program, which aired in Melbourne on station HSV-7. The short-lived weekly program aired on Wednesdays from 29 July 1959 to 14 October 1959, and was hosted by Jean Battersby. Each episode was about 13 minutes long. Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. HSV (TV Station)
HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Programming lineup, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output was previously delivered there. All Seven Network owned and operated studios had their live signals relayed there: for instance, ATN's output was fed to HSV and then transmitted via satellite or fibre optics to towers around metropolitan Sydney. Jean Battersby
Jean Battersby, (28 March 1928 – 24 February 2009) was an Australian arts executive and adviser, and the founding chief executive officer of the Australian Council for the Arts in 1968. Early life Born Jean Robinson in Drouin, Victoria, she attended Geelong Church of England Grammar School and gained a PhD in French literature at the University of Melbourne with a thesis on Charles Baudelaire, and undertook postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne. Career In the late 1950s she hosted several television series on HSV-7: ''Movie Guide'', '' Personal Column'' and '' What's On''. In 1968, she was invited by H. C.
