Whakatane High School is a secondary school located in the town of Whakatane, New Zealand. Dick Conway (rugby Union)
Richard James Conway (22 April 1935 – 25 May 2022), also known as Red Conway, was a New Zealand rugby union player. He played ten tests for the New Zealand national team, the All Blacks, between 1959 and 1965 at number 8 or flanker. In 1960, he had a finger amputated so he could take part in a tour of Australia and South Africa. Early life Conway was born in Whakatāne on 22 April 1935, and educated at Whakatane High School, where he played as a hooker. As well as playing rugby, Conway played softball as a catcher in the summer, and represented Rotorua in 1956. Nathan Twaddle
Robert Nathan Twaddle (born 21 August 1976) is a former New Zealand rower and Olympic medallist. He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, in the coxless pair rowing with his partner George Bridgewater and won a bronze medal. The pair began representing New Zealand together in 2004 and won bronze medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Twaddle was born in Whakatane, New Zealand.  He crewed for the Otago University and Auckland Rowing Clubs, and won several titles at New Zealand Rowing Championships, including the single sculls championships. Twaddle crewed firstly for New Zealand at the World Championships in Milan Italy in 2003, qualifying for the Athens Olympics with pairs partner Robert Hellstrom. The following year, Twaddle and Bridgwater were paired together and finished fourth in the pairs final at the Athens Olympics. Alan Stewart (educator)
Sir Alan Stewart (8 December 1917 – 1 September 2004) was a New Zealand educator and university administrator. He was principal of Massey Agricultural College from 1959 to 1963 and founding vice-chancellor of Massey University from 1964 to 1983, during which time he guided the institution's transition from agricultural college to full university. He is noted for building the university's internationally recognised agricultural programme, as well as for greatly expanding the university's extramural programme to make tertiary education available to rural New Zealanders. Ian Shearer
Ian John Shearer (10 December 1941 – 1 June 2021) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party, environmentalist and research scientist. Benjamin Quentin Marshall (born 25 February 1985) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played at or .
