Wettolsheim () is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. It is situated at the eastern margin of the southern Vosges Mountains. The commune is part of the Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges. Places of interest Grotte de Lourdes grandeur réelle: In 1912, after the destruction of the house of his birth by a fire, arch bishop François-Xavier Schoepfer (1843–1927), bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes from 1899 until 1927, decided to let build an exact copy of the grotto Massabielle in Lourdes at the same place where the house stood. The statue of the Virgin Mary was placed on a stone coming from the site where St. Bernadette Soubirous first saw the Immaculate Conception in 1858. The cavern in the heart of the village is still a place for a lot of religious ceremonies. Immaculate Conception
The Immaculate Conception is the belief that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her conception. Bernadette Soubirous
Bernadette Soubirous (; ; oc, Bernadeta Sobirós ; 7 January 184416 April 1879), also known as Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, was the firstborn daughter of a miller from Lourdes (''Lorda'' in Occitan), in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées in France, and is best known for experiencing Marian apparitions of a "young lady" who asked for a chapel to be built at the nearby cave- grotto at Massabielle. These apparitions occurred between 11 February and 16 July 1858, and the woman who appeared to her identified herself as the "Immaculate Conception." After a canonical investigation, Soubirous's reports were eventually declared "worthy of belief" on 18 February 1862, and the Marian apparition became known as Our Lady of Lourdes. Soubirous’s body has remained internally incorrupt. A grotto is a natural or artificial cave used by humans in both modern times and antiquity, and historically or prehistorically.
