Voorne aan Zee is a municipality on the island Voorne-Putten in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. It had a population of in 2022. The municipality of Voorne aan Zee is formed on 1 January 2023, through the merger of the former municipalities of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis and Westvoorne, which itself was formed on 1 January 1980, through the merger of the former municipalities Oostvoorne and Rockanje. It consists the population centres of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis, Oostvoorne, Oudenhoorn, Rockanje, Nieuw-Helvoet, Nieuwenhoorn, Oude en Nieuwe Struiten, Vierpolders, Zwartewaal, Tinte and Helhoek. Oostvoorne is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Westvoorne, and lies about north of Hellevoetsluis. Rockanje is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Voorne aan Zee, and lies about 7 km northwest of Hellevoetsluis. Voorne-Putten
Voorne-Putten is an island between the North Sea, the Brielse Meer and the rivers Oude Maas, Spui and Haringvliet in the province of South Holland. Voorne-Putten consists of the two former islands Voorne (the larger, western part) and Putten (the smaller, eastern part). It used to be separated by the river Bernisse which silted up and made the two islands one. It has 160,000 inhabitants (2008). Recently the riverbed has been dredged, and the two islands have been reformed. Meindert van Buuren, Jr. (born 5 January 1995) is a Dutch former racing driver, who currently resides in Rockanje. Career Karting Van Buuren began karting in 2004 at the age of nine and raced mostly in various Dutch championships, working his way up from the junior ranks to progress through to the Rotax Max DD2 category by 2011, when he finished in fourth position in the Rotax Max Wintercup. Belinda Meuldijk (born 7 January 1955) is a Dutch actress, writer, and activist. She has performed in Dutch television shows and movies, and is also a song writer. Jacob Van Maerlant
Jacob van Maerlant (c. 1230–40 – c. 1288–1300) was a Flemish poet of the 13th century and one of the most important Middle Dutch authors during the Middle Ages. Biography Jacob van Maerlant was born near Bruges. He became sacristan of Maerlant, in the island of Oostvoorne, where he lived for some time, employed as a sexton, whence his surname "de Coster". Later he resided at Damme, near Bruges, where, according to tradition, he held the position of town clerk. His early works are Middle Dutch translations of French romances. Brielle (), also called Den Briel in Dutch and Brill in English, is a town, municipality and historic seaport in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, on the north side of the island of Voorne-Putten, at the mouth of the New Maas.
