Westlake (album)
''Westlake'' is the first album by English singer/songwriter David Westlake. Creation Records released the album in November 1987. Under the title ''D87'', the album was reissued in expanded form in August 2023. Recording ''Westlake'' is a mini-album recorded 18-19 April 1987 at Greenhouse Studios on Old Street, Islington, London EC1. It was produced by Paul Gadd (son of Gary Glitter) and Steve Nunn. The record was Luke Haines’s first release. The Triffids’ rhythm section plays on the record. Alternative recordings of “The Word Around Town” and “She Grew and She Grew” appear on ''Hey Hey We’re The Manqués'', a collection of demos issued by Cherry Red Records in 2012 with The Servants’ second album ''Small Time''. Release history Creation Records released the original vinyl album in November 1987 (CRELP 019). A CD issue followed in August 1993 (CRECD 019). David Westlake is an English singer/songwriter. He led indie band The Servants from 1985 to 1991. History Westlake formed indie band the Servants in 1985 in Hayes, Middlesex, England. The Servants appeared on 1986’s ''NME''-associated ''C86'' compilation, and the band was from 1986 to 1991 the original home of Luke Haines. Joy Division
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Sumner and Hook formed the band after attending a June 1976 Sex Pistols concert. While Joy Division's first recordings were heavily influenced by early punk, they soon developed a sparse sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. Their self-released 1978 debut EP ''An Ideal for Living'' drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed them to his independent label Factory Records. Their debut album ''Unknown Pleasures'', recorded with producer Martin Hannett, was released in 1979. Boss Doctor Rhythm DR-110
The Doctor Rhythm DR-110 Graphic is a drum machine introduced in 1983 by the Boss product division of the Japanese Roland Corporation. It was the second entry in their DR series, following up on the much simpler DR-55. History Boss were better known for producing electric guitar accessories such as effects pedals, and the DR-110 is similarly small and lightweight in size (190×110×30mm, and only 450 g), and like most Boss equipment, could be run from a 9 V d.c. supply egative centreor batteries. Although not designed as a high-end studio product, The DR-110 nonetheless featured some noticeable advances in technology compared to previous Roland drum machines. It has an LCD graphic display, showing a step-programming grid for the various drum voices. Amanda Brown (musician)
Amanda Gabrielle Brown (born 17 November 1965) is an Australian composer, classically trained musician, singer and songwriter known for her role as the violinist of the band The Go-Betweens and more recently a session musician and soundtrack composer. Career 1980s Brown's early bands during the early 1980s were Climbing Frame, Tender Mercies (with John Willsteed, also later with The Go-Betweens) and Blood Brothers, in which she played violin, oboe, guitar and keyboards. In 1986, The Go-Betweens – soon after signing a new contract (this time with Beggars Banquet) – discovered Amanda Brown playing live in a café. Robert Forster (musician)
Robert Derwent Garth Forster (born 29 June 1957) is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and music critic. In December 1977 he co-founded an indie rock group, The Go-Betweens, with fellow musician Grant McLennan. In 1980, Lindy Morrison joined the group on drums and backing vocals, and by 1981 Forster and Morrison were also lovers. In 1988, Streets of Your Town, co-written by McLennan and Forster, became the band's highest-charting hit in both Australia and the United Kingdom. The follow-up single, "Was There Anything I Could Do?", was a number-16 hit on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. In December 1989, after recording six albums, The Go-Betweens disbanded. Forster and Morrison had separated as a couple earlier, and Forster began his solo music career from 1990. Alsy MacDonald
Alan MacDonald (born 14 August 1961) is an Australian musician and lawyer, best known as the drummer of the 1980s band The Triffids, where he performed under his nickname 'Alsy'. He was born on 14 August 1961 to Prof. Bill MacDonald, a professor of child health at University of Western Australia, and Dr Judy Henzell ( AM), a well-known paediatrician. He was the youngest of the four children, with two older brothers and a sister. As a child he couldn't say 'Alan' properly so called himself 'Alsy'. He went to Hollywood Senior High School in Perth, Western Australia and was close friends with David McComb. It was founded in 1926, largely as a magazine for dance band musicians, by Leicester-born composer, publisher Lawrence Wright; the first editor was Edgar Jackson. ''Shindig!'' is a popular music magazine that is published monthly in the United Kingdom. It has been published by Silverback Publishing since 2015. Before that it was published by Volcano Publishing from 2007. History ''Shindig!'' was founded by Jon 'Mojo' Mills in 1992 and was initially published under the name ''Gravedigger'' as a photocopied fanzine that covered garage-punk music.
