Western Suburbs Panthers
The Western Suburbs Panthers, often simply referred to as Wests for short, are a rugby league club based in the western suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The club is the oldest in the QRL and despite absences from the top grade in recent years and several name changes the club continued to operate. After leaving the Queensland Cup, they participated in the Brisbane A-Grade competition from 2005 until their senior sides disbanding in 2012. In 2013, the club entered a voluntary hiatus, but was announced to be part of the revived Brisbane Rugby League. History The club's roots trace back to the first game of rugby league played in the state - a game between North Brisbane and Toombul in 1909. Aspley Broncos
The Aspley Broncos (formerly Aspley Demons and Aspley Devils) are a rugby league club in Brisbane, Australia. Aspley competes in the Brisbane A-Grade Rugby League, FOGS Cup and FOGS Colts Challenge competitions. In 2007 they competed in the Queensland Cup as a Farm team, feeder club to the Brisbane Broncos. History Beginning The Aspley RLFC first became a member of the Brisbane Rugby League Junior Division in 1968 under the name Norths Aspley, and was formed the previous year following a meeting of locals interested in establishing a rugby league club in Aspley. In the club's first season it fielded four teams, with the Under-13s winning the Premiership. Due to the lack of poker machines in Queensland at the time, funds were acquired through Bingo games, chocolate wheels and raffles. Nick Frisby
Nick Frisby (born 29 October 1992 in Brisbane, Australia) is an Australian international rugby union player who plays with the Western Force in Super Rugby AU. His regular playing position is scrum-half. Rugby Union career Amateur career Frisby's local club side was GPS Rugby, who play in the Queensland Premier Rugby Competition. Frsiby has been drafted to Stirling County in the Scottish Premiership for the 2018-19 season. Ken Day (rugby League)
Ken Day (1936–1998), also known by the nickname of "High Tower", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s. An Australian international and Queensland representative forward, he played his club football in Brisbane for Western Suburbs and in Sydney for Manly-Warringah. Biography Originally from Caboolture, while playing in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership for Western Suburbs in 1961, Day was selected to make his debut for the Queensland Maroons and then the Australian national team, becoming Kangaroo No. 363. Despite receiving offers of over 1,000 Australian pounds from Townsville and North Sydney clubs at the end of the season, he opted to stay in Brisbane. Tony Currie (rugby League)
Tony Currie (born 25 December 1962) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He is of Aboriginal descent and played for the Australian side, State of Origin for Queensland. At club level he played for the Brisbane Broncos, and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Australia, appearing in premiership-winning sides for both teams, as well as Leeds in England. Playing career In 1982, while playing with Western Suburbs, Currie won the Brisbane Rugby League premiership's Rothmans Medal. On 20 July 1988 Currie played for Australia in their record 62-point win over Papua New Guinea, scoring a try. Norm Carr
Norm Carr (born 20 February 1955) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. A Queensland State of Origin representative forward, he played his entire club career in the Brisbane Rugby League Premiership for Souths and Wests, winning grand finals with both. Biography Born in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Carr played for Brisbane Wests in the QRL State League. He scored a try in Brisbane's 1979 Amco Cup final loss to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. Carr's three-game sojourn in the Maroon jumper began off the bench in 1980, but didn't play as he wasn't called upon by coach John McDonald. He actually played in 1981. Cecil Aynsley
Cecil "The Red Flyer" Aynsley (March 23, 1902 – May 8, 1975) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s. A Queensland state and Australian representative and talented goal-kicker, he scored a try in each of his four national representative appearances. Born in Charters Towers, Queensland, Aynsley began his rugby league career there before in 1921 playing for the Western Suburbs Panthers in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership. Three years later he made his début for Australia against the touring Great Britain side playing in all three Test matches, scoring on each occasion. During the 1925 season he toured New Zealand with the Queensland team. He had a tremendous tour, scoring 34 tries in only eleven matches.
