Cascade, Iowa
Cascade is a city in Dubuque and Jones counties, Iowa, United States. The Dubuque County portion is part of Dubuque Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Jones County section is part of Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,386 at the 2020 census, up from 1,958 in 2000. The city is located within southwestern of Dubuque County and north-central Jones County. Arguably the town's most notable historic event was the 1925 flood. Between 1880 and 1936, the town was connected to Bellevue via the Chicago, St. Paul & Milwaukee Railroad Company. Petersburg (formerly, Petersburgh) is an unincorporated community in Delaware County, Iowa, United States. It lies at an elevation of 1112 feet (339 m). History The first building, a store, was built in Petersburg in 1873. The post office was established in 1874. Petersburg's population was 76 in 1902. Saints Peter and Paul parish is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The Saints Peter and Paul Church was completed and consecrated in 1906. Iowa Highway 136 passes through Worthington, which is situated north of Cascade and south of Dyersville. History The land on which Worthington is currently located was originally purchased by David Lovelace from the United States Government. The Dubuque South-Western Railroad — the local branch of the Chicago-Milwaukee and St. Paul lines — was contracted to establish a line from Farley to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1858, an Englishman named Amos Worthington came to the area to establish a general store. By November of that year, the area became an unincorporated town known as the village of Worthington.
