Western Canada Concept Party Of Saskatchewan
The Western Canada Concept Party of Saskatchewan was a provincial political party that was the Saskatchewan, Canada branch of the Western Canada Concept, a federal political party that advocated the separation of the four western provinces of Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) to form a new country. The party reached its peak during the 1982 provincial election, where the WCC won more votes than the Saskatchewan Liberal Party candidate in 23 of the province's 64 constituencies. In three ridings the WCC candidate captured more than 1,000 votes – in Moosomin, Souris-Cannington, and Shaunavon. Two disgruntled PC MLA's, Lloyd Hampton and Bill Sveinson, later attempted to join the WCC, thus giving the party a presence in the Legislature. Shaunavon (electoral District)
Shaunavon is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was created before the 8th Saskatchewan general election in 1934 as "Gull Lake". Redrawn and renamed "Shaunavon" in 1952, the constituency was abolished before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. It is now part of the districts of Wood River and Cypress Hills. Unionest Party
The Unionest Party was a provincial political party in Saskatchewan, Canada, in the early 1980s, that advocated union between the four western provinces of Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) and the United States. The party's name was a contraction of ‘best union’. The party was founded in March 1980 by Dick Collver, a former leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan, who resigned from the PC caucus when he announced the formation of his new party. A few days later, another PC member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan (MLA), Dennis Ham, also left the PC caucus to join Collver. Bill Sveinson
William Martin Sveinson (July 7, 1946 – December 17, 2020) was a Canadian professional poker player and politician. Sveinson served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Saskatchewan. He was first elected under the Conservatives in 1982 and represented the riding of Regina North West. Sveinson crossed the floor in 1983 and was, for a time, the only Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Saskatchewan Liberal Party, but he was ousted from the party in 1985 as a result of apparent disagreements between Sveinson and Ralph Goodale (then leader of the Saskatchewan Liberal party) over legislative questioning tactics. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. Cannington is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in the extreme southeast corner of the province, this constituency was redrawn to include the former district of Souris for the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. The original Cannington constituency, one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905, was named after the Cannington Manor settlement located in the region. Currently the safest seat for the Saskatchewan Party, it is arguably one of the most conservative ridings in the province – having never elected a member of the CCF or NDP. The Western Canada Concept was a Western Canada, Western Canadian federal political party founded in 1980 to promote the separation of the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, and the Yukon and Northwest Territories (which included present-day Nunavut) from Canada in order to create a new nation. Moosomin is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southeastern Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Formerly represented by speaker Don Toth, it is arguably one of the most conservative ridings in the province, having been in the hands of a centre-right party without interruption since 1975.
