Westerdeich
''Westerdeich'' is a German television series, based on the Belgian television series '' Wittekerke'', which, in turn, was a remake of the Australian soap opera, '' E Street''. ''E Street'' originally aired from 1989 to 1993 on Network Ten, a commercial TV network in Australia, and was created by Forrest Redlich. In English, ''Westerdeich'' literally means ''West-dike'' - but a more accurate translation would probably be ''Westside'' - this is also the name of the district in which the original series, ''E Street'', was set. The serial ran on the TV channel RTL from 29 January 1995, and was always shown weekly on Sunday evenings. There was one season containing 37 episodes. ''Westerdeich'' was the second Australian soap opera to be re-formatted for a European audience by RTL. E Street (television Show)
''E Street'' is an Australian television soap opera created by Forrest Redlich and produced by his production company, Westside Television Productions, for Network Ten. It was broadcast twice weekly, from Wednesday, 24 January 1989 to Thursday, 20 May 1993. The series won several Logie awards. ''E Street'' is short for Eden Street, which is based in a tough fictional inner-city district called ''Westside.'' The action of the soap opera revolves around the local community. The soap opera, '' Richmond Hill'', which was produced by the Grundy Organization, was cancelled by Network Ten to make way for ''E Street''. Das Erste (; "The First") is the flagship national television channel of the ARD association of public broadcasting corporations in Germany. ''Das Erste'' is jointly operated by the nine regional public broadcasting corporations that are members of the ARD. ''Verbotene Liebe'' (, "Forbidden Love") was a German television soap opera created by Reg Watson for Das Erste. The show was set primarily in the German city of Düsseldorf although, at times, the city of Cologne and the Spanish island of Mallorca figured prominently in the show's story lines. First broadcast on 2 January 1995, ''Verbotene Liebe'' was originally broadcast in 24-minute episodes, five times a week. It expanded to 45-minute episodes on 21 June 2011 and trimmed back to 40-minute episodes on 23 January 2012 to accommodate an adjusted time-slot. In 2006, Pay-TV network Passion began broadcasting episodes of the show from the beginning. ''Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten'' ("Good Times, Bad Times"), often abbreviated ''GZSZ'', is a long-running German television soap opera, first broadcast on RTL in 1992. The programme concerns the lives of a fictional neighborhood in Germany's capital city Berlin. Over the years the soap opera tends to have an overhaul of young people in their late teens and early twenties, targeting a young viewership. Based on the Australian format ''The Restless Years'', which first was successfully adapted in the Netherlands as ''Goede tijden, slechte tijden'', the German version took the scripts of the first 230 episodes, even though heavily rewritten, from the original. Mariella Ahrens
Mariella Ahrens (born 2 April 1969) is a Russian-born German actress. Early life Ahrens was born in Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) as the daughter of a German computer specialist and a Bulgarian ophthalmologist. She grew up to the age of three in Bulgaria and then moved in 1974 to Berlin-Friedrichshain in East Germany. Education After a previous cancellation by the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, she completed her education as an actress at Fritz-Kirchhoff-Schule in Berlin. Career Ahrens first appeared on stage at the Kleine Theater in "Palais Podewils" in Berlin. The Restless Years
''The Restless Years'' is an Australian soap opera which followed the lives of several Sydney school-leavers and the drama and relationships faced by young adults. It was created by Reg Watson and produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation for Network Ten. The series debuted in a prime time slot on 6 December 1977 (during the end-of-year TV non-ratings period, in the vein of the Seven Network serial ''Cop Shop'', which had premiered the previous week in the out of ratings period) and was creator Watson's second successful soap opera in Australia, following ''The Young Doctors''. It had a successful run of four years, until December 1981, and ran 781 x 30 minute episodes. It was not renewed by the network due to declining ratings. The series had a predominantly young audience.
