West Valley View
The ''West Valley View'' is a newspaper in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area serving the West Valley cities and towns of Avondale, Arizona, Avondale, Buckeye, Arizona, Buckeye, Goodyear, Arizona, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Arizona, Litchfield Park, Tolleson, Arizona, Tolleson and Tonopah. It has a controlled circulation of 75,000+ and is published every Wednesday. Elliott Freireich founded the paper in 1986 as a twice-weekly paper, published on Tuesdays and Fridays. The West Valley View replaced the original newspaper serving Avondale/Goodyear which was known as the Westside Enterprise and later the Westsider. The View is not related to those publications other than it covers some of the same communities and that Freireich's parents were owners of the Enterprise for a couple of years in the '60s. Avondale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to Phoenix. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 89,334, up from 76,238 in 2010 and 35,883 in 2000. Avondale, incorporated in 1946, has experienced rapid residential and commercial growth in the years since 1980. Buckeye is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, and is the westernmost suburb in the Phoenix metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census the population was 91,502, up from 50,876 in 2010 and 6,537 in 2000. It was the fastest-growing city in the United States for both 2017 and 2018. Litchfield Park is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is located west of Phoenix. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 6,847, up from 5,476 in 2010. History The town of Litchfield Park is a historically affluent community outside of Phoenix named after its founder, Paul Weeks Litchfield (1875–1959). He was an executive of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company who came to the Phoenix area in 1916 in search of suitable land to farm a long-staple cotton that had previously been available only from the Sea Islands off the coast of Georgia and from Egypt. This cotton was needed to strengthen the rubber in the pneumatic tire, of which Goodyear was the world's largest producer.
