The Town of Bassendean is a Local government areas of Western Australia, local government area in the northeastern List of Perth suburbs, suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, west of the industrial centre of Midland, Western Australia, Midland and about northeast of Perth central business district, Perth's central business district. __NOTOC__ Bassendean (once referred to as West Guildford) is a north-eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the Town of Bassendean. It is also the name of the sand dune system on the Swan Coastal Plain known as the ''Bassendean Dune System''. History In 1829, the land along the Swan River was allotted to British settlers as they arrived in the newly created Swan River Colony. James Henty and his brothers were granted 2,000 acres upon which they grazed their livestock and built a mud-brick homestead. They called their property ''Stoke Farm''. In 1832, the Henty brothers sold the farm to the Colonial Secretary, Peter Broun who re-named the homestead ''Bassendean''. Over the years the Bassendean property became incorporated into the suburb of West Guildford and in 1922, West Guildford was renamed Bassendean. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. Bassendean Oval currently known as Steel Blue Oval for sponsorship reasons, is a sports stadium, located in Bassendean, Western Australia. The capacity of the venue is 22,000 people. It usually hosts Australian rules football matches and is the home of WAFL and WAWFL Swan Districts Football Club. Bassendean Fire Station
The Bassendean Fire Station, at 10-14 Parker Street, Bassendean, Western Australia, is a historic fire station. It is a one-storey brick and tile building, with elements of Inter-War Stripped Classical architecture styling, from its construction in 1934 and expansion in 1969–71. The listing included outbuildings and a ladder training tower at the rear. The station closed in 2013, after the Department of Fire and Emergency Services moved services to Kiara. It was listed by the Heritage Council on the State Register of Western Australia. Ashfield, Western Australia
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the Town of Bassendean. The suburb is located along the Swan River. The Midland line passes through the suburb and it is serviced by the Ashfield railway station. The housing was originally established as small collection of railway houses near the train line. In the late 1950s early 1960s the area experienced a small boom of housing (400 houses) mostly built by the then State Housing Commission partly funded by the sale of half the properties to individuals. In the late 1960s the State Housing started to reacquire some of those properties. During the late 1990s the suburb underwent a revamp driven by the State Housing Commission, now called the Department of Housing. Perth Central Business District
