West End Synagogue
West End Synagogue, originally Khal Kodesh Adath Israel and known for a while as the Gay Street Synagogue, is a congregation in Nashville, Tennessee. It is affiliated with the Conservative movement and dates to the 1850s. Percival Goodman designed its sanctuary in 1950 with a flexible arrangement that was widely imitated. The synagogue includes the Beit Miriam Religious School. Alumni of the school include ''Washington Post'' journalist Rosalind S. Helderman. Arthur Hertzbeg was the rabbi from 1947 until 1956. In June 1990, the Dixie Knights chapter of the Ku Klux Klan shot at the synagogue in a drive-by shooting, with Grand Wizard Leonard William Armstrong firing a TEC-9 and member Damien Patton driving. KKK member and Christian music producer Jonathan David Brown was found guilty of conspiracy and two counts of perjury for accessory after the fact. Percival Goodman (January 13, 1904 – October 11, 1989) was an American urban theorist and architect who designed more than 50 synagogues between 1948 and 1983. A drive-by shooting is a type of assault that usually involves the perpetrator(s) firing a weapon from within a motor vehicle and then fleeing. Drive-by shootings allow the perpetrator(s) to quickly strike their target and flee the scene before law enforcement is able to respond. Leonard William Armstrong
Leonard William Armstrong was a Grand Dragon of the White Knights, Tennessee's Ku Klux Klan. On the night of June 10, 1990 with Damien Patton driving, Armstrong shot at the West End Synagogue, which was empty, with a TEC-9. The two were later assisted by Christian music producer and KKK member Jonathan David Brown. He was indicted for civil rights violations in December 1991 and pleaded guilty, taking a plea bargain, in April 1992. He served 42 months in prison. The Intratec TEC-9, TEC-DC9, KG-99 and AB-10 are a line of blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols. They were developed by Intratec, an American subsidiary of the Swedish firearms manufacturer Interdynamic AB. Introduced in 1984, the TEC-9 was made of inexpensive molded polymers and a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts. The simple design of the gun made it easy to repair and modify. Damien Patton
Damien Patton (born July 11, 1972) is known for being a founder of the American software company Banjo and as a NASCAR mechanic. He is a former member of the Ku Klux Klan. After Patton's links to the KKK were discovered, in 2020, Banjo had several contracts suspended. He also resigned as CEO in May of that year. He is a Navy veteran. Jonathan David Brown
Jonathan David Brown (November 20, 1955 – September 27, 2016) was an American record producer and audio engineer known for his work on albums released in the Contemporary Christian music industry. Brown served federal prison time as an accessory after the fact for helping a member of the Tennessee White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan evade authorities. Brown's production work started with several Maranatha! Congregation Ohabai Sholom, known as The Temple, is a Reform Jewish synagogue located at 5015 Harding Pike, in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States. Founded in the 1840s, the congregation is notable for the elaborate, Moorish Revival Vine Street Temple that was its home from 1874 until its demolition in 1954; replaced by its current synagogue the following year.
