West Cape, Prince Edward Island
West Cape is a cape and an unincorporated community located at the westernmost extremity of Prince Edward Island, Canada. West Cape is the westernmost point of Prince Edward Island, as opposed to West Point, which lies several kilometres to the south and slightly east. West Cape Wind Farm The largest wind farm in Atlantic Canada is centered in West Cape, extending north to Point Wolfe and south to West Point, for a distance of approximately 10 kilometers. Encompassing an area of about 25 square kilometers, the wind farm consists of 55 turbines producing 99 megawatts of power, surpassing the Kent Hills Wind Farm in New Brunswick by 3 megawatts. While about 10% of the power is sold to the city of Summerside, the rest is exported through New Brunswick to New England markets. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen Provinces and territories of Canada, provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. West Point, Prince Edward Island
West Point is a cape and an unincorporated community located in the southwestern corner of Prince Edward Island, Canada. ''West Point Lighthouse'', a square tapered tower, was built in 1875 by the federal Department of Marine. The West Point Lighthouse Inn, Museum and Restaurant was established in 1984. The West Point Development Corporation, a non-profit organization, maintains the lighthouse as a navigational aid beacon, although the living quarters of the lighthouse are now used as a unique country inn and museum. This lighthouse was first lit on May 21, 1876. Cedar Dunes Provincial Park is located at West Point and provides a supervised public beach for swimming. Kent Hills Wind Farm
Kent Hills Wind Farm is a large wind farm project located southeast from Prosser Brook, New Brunswick. The wind farm was completed in three phases between 2008 and 2018. The farm was the first in New Brunswick. It is owned and operated by TransAlta and the power is purchased by NB Power for supply to consumers. As of 2021, the farm consisted of forty-nine 3-megawatt (MW) wind turbines and 5 3.45-MW turbines, for a total capacity of 167 MW. The project produces 580,000 megawatt hours per year. The turbines used are Vestas V90-3MW model, which have a rotor diameter of and sit atop an tower. In October 2021 a tower, in phase two of the project, collapsed because of a bad foundation. Initially all WTG were taken off line as a precaution. TransAlta Renewables have found deficiencies in the design of all of the windmill foundations. Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island. Confederation Bridge
The Confederation Bridge (french: Pont de la Confédération) is a box girder bridge carrying the Trans-Canada Highway across the Abegweit Passage of the Northumberland Strait, linking the province of Prince Edward Island with the province of New Brunswick on the mainland. Opened May 31, 1997, the bridge is Canada's longest bridge and the world's longest bridge over ice-covered water. Construction took place from October 1993 to May 1997 and cost C$1.3 billion.
