Wesley Walker
Wesley Darcel Walker (born May 26, 1955) is a former professional American football wide receiver who played for the New York Jets from 1977 to 1989. Walker graduated from Carson High School in Carson, California, where he set many receiving and return records, and was an All-American at the University of California, catching 86 passes for 2,206 yards and 22 touchdowns over the course of four seasons, an average of 25.7 yards per catch. He was noted for his great speed, averaging over 20 yards per reception over many seasons (his career average was 19 yards per reception). At the time of his retirement, he was second in Jets all-time receiving yardage. Legally blind in his left eye, Walker overcame this handicap to become one of the Jets all-time great receivers. Connie Carberg, the first female scout in NFL history was credited with helping the Jets in their selection of Walker in the second round of the 1977 NFL Draft. 1977 NFL Draft
The 1977 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held May 3–4, 1977, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The league also held its first supplemental draft, which took place after the regular draft and before the regular season. This was the first draft in the common draft era (since 1967) to be 12 rounds, five rounds fewer than drafts of 1967–1976. Connie Carberg
Connie Carberg (' Nicholas; born 1950/1951) is a former American football executive. In 1976, she became the first female scout in the National Football League (NFL), working in the New York Jets' scouting department from 1976 to 1980. Early years Carberg's father, Calvin Nicholas, was the Jets' team doctor from 1962 to 1987, and her uncle, James A. Nicholas, was a team orthopedist credited with saving Joe Namath's career. Carberg grew up in Babylon, New York, and made mock drafts as a hobby. She played college basketball at Wheaton College for two years before transferring to Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, she received permission from head football coach Woody Hayes to attend team practices. She graduated in 1974 with a degree in home economics. Visual impairment, also known as vision impairment, is a medical definition primarily measured based on an individual's better eye visual acuity; in the absence of treatment such as correctable eyewear, assistive devices, and medical treatment– visual impairment may cause the individual difficulties with normal daily tasks including reading and walking.
