Wes Sheridan
Wesley J. Sheridan (born 20 January 1960) is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Kensington-Malpeque in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2015. He was a member of the Liberal Party. A native of Shediac, New Brunswick and a graduate of Dartmouth College, Sheridan was an assistant manager at the Malpeque Bay Credit Union prior to entering politics. Sheridan was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election, defeating Progressive Conservative cabinet minister Mitch Murphy in the Kensington-Malpeque riding. On June 12, 2007, Sheridan was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Provincial Treasurer. In January 2010, he was given the additional responsibility of municipal affairs, with the cabinet position being styled as the Minister of Finance and Municipal Affairs. 2011 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2011 Prince Edward Island general election was held on October 3, 2011. The Liberal government of Premier Robert Ghiz was elected to a second majority government, winning one seat less than they did in 2007. Ghiz himself considered 18 seats to be a marker for a strong majority. He won 22. Health care was an important issue during the election, especially in rural areas. The Progressive Conservatives retained their position as Official Opposition, winning five seats. Olive Crane used the issue of the Provincial Nominee Program during the election, as well as issues surrounding immigration and investments that came under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Federal Minister Jason Kenney during the election. ''The Guardian'' is a daily newspaper published six days a week in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The paper was originally launched in the 1870s as ''The Presbyterian and Evangelical Protestant Union'', owned by Presbyterian minister Stephen G. Lawson. It adopted its current name in 1887. After a succession of local owners, the newspaper was bought by Thomson Corporation in the 1950s. Southam Newspapers acquired the paper from Thomson in 1996, before being itself acquired by Canwest Global Communications in 2000. Canwest sold the paper to Transcontinental in 2002, before being sold to SaltWire Network, a newly formed parent company of ''The Chronicle Herald'', in April 2017. H. Wade MacLauchlan CM OPEI (born 10 December 1954), is a Canadian legal academic, university administrator, politician and community leader. He served as the fifth president of the University of Prince Edward Island from 1999 to 2011, becoming president emeritus in 2012. He served as the 32nd premier of Prince Edward Island from 2015 to 2019. His government was defeated in the April 23, 2019 general election. The 2015 Prince Edward Island general election was held May 4, 2015, to elect members of the 65th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Executive Council of Prince Edward Island (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Prince Edward Island) is the cabinet of that Canadian province. Almost always made up of members of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Cabinet of Canada while being smaller in size. As federal and provincial responsibilities differ there are a number of different portfolios between the federal and provincial governments.
