Vic Wertz
Victor Woodrow Wertz (February 9, 1925 – July 7, 1983) was an American professional baseball first baseman and outfielder. He had a 17-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career from 1947 to 1963. He played for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns / Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins; all teams within the American League. Career Wertz was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Tigers in 1942, and played in their minor league system until making his major league debut in 1947. He hit for the cycle on September 14, 1947, while in his rookie season with Detroit. Wertz finished in the Top 15 in MVP voting five times: 1949 (10th), 1950 (10th), 1956 (9th), 1957 (6th), and 1960 (14th). Wertz was among the Top 10 in the American League in home runs in 1949 (20), 1950 (27), 1951 (27), 1952 (23), 1953 (19), 1956 (32), and 1957 (28). Matthew Stewart Wertz (born February 17, 1979) is an American singer-songwriter. Originally from Liberty, Missouri, as of 2014 he lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Life and career Born and raised a Christian in Liberty, Missouri, Wertz's interest in visual art led him to study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he graduated with a degree in industrial design. While there, his musical talents and ambitions grew. He started writing songs his first year of college. After graduation in 2001, Wertz moved to Nashville gained a considerable fan base by performing at Young Life camps, after releasing his first album, ''Somedays'', produced by Steve Wilson. His next studio album, ''Twenty Three Places'' (2003) was produced with Ed Cash. Ruth Elizabeth Wertz (1935July 14, 2021), known as Ricki Wertz, was an American actress and television personality. She was a pioneering figure in local television in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, appearing on several shows from the late 1950s until the 1980s. She was noted for hosting ''Ricki & Copper'' and ''Junior High Quiz''. Early life Wertz was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1935. She left her hometown when she was 17 in order to train at the Pittsburgh Playhouse on a scholarship. One of her roommates was future film and television star Shirley Jones, also from Pennsylvania.
