Werribee Bears
The Werribee Bears Rugby League Club is a rugby league team based in Werribee, Victoria, Australia. The Werribee Bears play in the Victorian Rugby League competition. They have teams entered in both the Senior and Junior Competition in the VRL. They also have a Senior Women's and Junior Girls Rugby League OzTag team. Club history The Werribee Bears Rugby League Club was first established in 2008 by Rangi Tiananga. Rangi had an idea that he wanted to start a rugby league club in Werribee as he saw the need of a different code to be started in the Wyndham District area, as it was dominated by AFL/VFL footy clubs, Soccer clubs and one Rugby club. but there were no Rugby League club in the area. With the help of his son Aaron Tiananga, the idea was put into reality. News of a new rugby league club being established in the Werribee area spread fast. Werribee is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Wyndham local government area. Rugby league football has been played and watched by people in the Australian state of Victoria since the early 20th century. While for most of its history there the game's popularity has been marginal due to the dominance of Australian rules football in Victoria, rugby league's popularity has rapidly increased in recent years in the state's capital of Melbourne, due mainly to the introduction of a professional Melbourne-based team in the national competition. NRL Victoria (abbreviated as NRLVic, and formerly the Victorian Rugby League) is responsible for administering the game of rugby league in the Australian state of Victoria. Victoria is an Affiliated State of the overall Australian governing body the National Rugby League. The VRL commenced in 1952 and has been running each year since.
