Werner Schaaphok
Werner Schaaphok (born 22 December 1941) is a German-Dutch former professional footballer who played as a defender or midfielder for Ajax, Blauw-Wit, AGOVV and the Chicago Mustangs. Early life Schaaphok was born during the Second World War in Berlin to two German parents. His original last name was ''Glanz''. His parents divorced, and his mother remarried to a Dutchman whose last name was Schaaphok, and together they moved to Amsterdam. Werner took on the last name of his stepfather while maintaining German nationality and citizenship. Career AFC Ajax Schaaphok made his debut in the starting XI for Ajax in 1959. He went on to play in 148 league matches for Ajax, making it into the '' Club of 100'' of the Amsterdam side. Sidelined by an injury for two weeks during the 1964–65 Eredivisie season, Schaaphok lost his starting position in the team under newly appointed coach Rinus Michels, to Frits Soetekouw. VVA/Spartaan is a Dutch amateur football club from the Amsterdam borough of Amsterdam-West in the neighborhood Bos en Lommer, founded in 1901. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from la, Inter, 'between' + german: toto, 'betting pool'),Most precisely, from (football pool); cf. often abbreviated and more known in the German-speaking world as UI Cup and originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. Teams who originally would have entered the Intertoto Cup now directly enter the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League from this point. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. The KNVB Beker (; en, KNVB Cup), branded as the TOTO KNVB Beker for sponsorship reasons, is a competition in the Netherlands organized by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) since 1898. It was based on the format of the English FA Cup. Outside the Netherlands, it is often referred to as the Dutch Cup. The Eredivisie (; ''"Honour Division"'' or ''"Premier Division"'') is the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. It is considered one of the best European leagues. As of the 2020–21 season, it is ranked the sixth-best league in Europe by UEFA. The Eredivisie consists of 18 clubs.
