Werner Carmichel
Werner Camichel (26 January 1945 – 27 March 2006 in Samaden) is a Swiss bobsledder who competed in the 1970s. He won the gold medal in the four-man event at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. Camichel also won two gold medals in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships, winning them in 1973 and 1975. Camichel carried the Swiss flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. He later managed the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in St. Moritz. Camichel died from cancer in 2006. His sons Corsin Camichel and Duri Camichel Duri Camichel (6 May 1982 – 28 April 2015) was a Swiss professional ice hockey player. The 1972 Winter Olympics, officially the and commonly known as Sapporo 1972 ( ja, 札幌1972), was a winter multi-sport event held from February 3 to 13, 1972, in Sapporo, Japan. It was the first Winter Olympic Games to take place outside Europe and North America. Host city selection Sapporo first won the rights to host the 1940 Winter Olympics, but Japan resigned as the Games' host after its Second Sino-Japanese War, 1937 invasion of China. The 1940 Games were later cancelled. All the cities awarded Games that were cancelled due to war have since hosted the Games (London, Tokyo, Helsinki, Sapporo and Cortina d'Ampezzo).
