Werinipre Seibarugo is a People's Democratic Party politician who was appointed acting Governor of Bayelsa State in southern Nigeria from 16 April 2008 to 27 May 2008. Timipre Marlin Sylva (born 7 July 1964) is a Nigerian politician, he is a former List of Governors of Bayelsa State, Governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, and the current Nigeria Minister of State for Petroleum & Resources Corporation, Petroleum Resources. Early life and background Sylva was born in Brass, Nigeria, Brass, Bayelsa (formerly Rivers State, of which Bayelsa State was split off from in 1996), He got part of his education in Bayelsa State, Bayelsa and in Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria. Bayelsa State
Bayelsa is one of the states in the South-South region of Nigeria, located in the core of the Niger Delta region. Bayelsa State was created in 1996 and was carved out from Rivers State, making it one of the newest states in the federation. Yenagoa is the capital city of Bayelsa State with most parts to have fallen within the high-risk of floods, suspects to occur annually. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was established in 1998 and is the electoral body which oversees elections in Nigeria. History Regulation and administration of elections The administration of democratic elections in Nigeria dates back to the period before Independence when the Electoral Commission of Nigeria(ECN) was inaugurated in 1958 to conduct the 1959 federal elections. Prior to 1958, regional laws and government regulated and conducted elections.
